JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: ACTIVITY TEAM MEMBER
HOURS : 30 HOURS PER WEEK
(Inclusive of evening and weekend working)
Job Summary
The Activities Team member will:
· The Activities team member will work under the general direction of the Activities Coordinator and will deputise for the Coordinator as required
· Liaise with Residents and their Families and Carers, MDT, Physio’s, S< & OT colleagues, all staff including Day Care staff, Social Services, Primary Care, Volunteers, Education Services and other relevant external agencies.
· Liaising with CNM’s & DON maintain and develop, implement and evaluate a programme of suitable and varied Social and Therapeutic Activities & Entertainment on an individual and group basis to suit Residents’ specific needs in each Unit and within budgetary limits.
· Liaise with and guide Volunteers to ensure their compliance with regulatory requirements and Policies & Procedures of the Home.
- Liaise and work with Schools and supervision of Transition Year students.
- Liaise and work with MUT Social Care students on placement.
- Liaise with CNM’s in identifying Residents’ suitability for specific Activities & Therapies and identify specific needs where possible and appropriate.
· Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and maintain communication networks with Staff, Residents, Families, Carers and the broader Community.
· Monitor attendance at all Activities to identify trends and changing needs.
· Deputise for and liaise with the Home’s Activity Coordinator
· Bring the Gardens and Facilities of the Home into the Activity programme, ensuring that at all times there is free movement and Access for all residents to participate in outdoor activities in all units at their choice.
CLINICAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
· Create an environment in Maguire House of a household everyday activity, whereby residents have choice in multiple activity sessions, including structured activities provided on a sessional basis; along with household activity which occurs throughout the day (e.g. gardening, linen, cooking etc.)
· Under the guidance and supervision of the CNM make appropriate interventions in response to the needs of Residents and plan / provide a programme of recreational/social/therapeutic activities.
· Complete the Residents Activity Assessment form
· Demonstrate choice by the Resident to participate and not to participate in Activities.
· To implement and maintain high standards of care for all Residents
· To facilitate social inclusion of Residents into community activities e.g. work, leisure, education services, social services – organising outings as required
· To take a lead in the Home’s organisation of calendar events with the Activity Coordinator ensuring that the Residents in Maguire House seamlessly interact with the wider Nursing Home resident groups. Calendar events such as Valentine’s day, St. Patricks day, Christmas and other denominations religious events, major sporting events (World cups, All Ireland etc.) decorating the Home appropriately for inclusion of all Residents, and attending with the Residents at functions will be supported.
· Being available at weekend, evenings and other times to ensure the personal and collective activities of the residents are provided.
Communication
· To promote the role of Activity team member and that Activities form the therapeutic and central aspect of the Residents daily routines
· To consult, include and assist the Residents to design the Activity Programme for their Home, evaluating regularly.
· To effectively communicate with Residents and all relevant bodies involved with Residents care.
· To communicate and liaise, formally and informally, always with the team or appropriate others with regards to OT involvement with all Residents in the treatment programme.
· To participate in all relevant multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Documentation
· To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional standards.
Professional ethics
· To keep up to date with current policies and procedures of the Home and also the health and safety statement, risk assessments for the services.
· Complete Hazard identification, risk assessment and incident reporting for any issues or concerns, accidents or events to the Director of Nursing.
· To comply with all recommended mandatory training
Training staff and students
· To participate in the training of students on placement with the team by working with them as required and giving feedback in assessment discussions
· To participate in the orientation of visitors to the Activity Coordinator Service and provide information on the Activities team members work
Service development and Delivery
· To participate in the operational planning and implementation of policy and service development within the team
· To participate in the delivery of the Activity Action Plan
· To participate in team building exercises
· To represent and promote the A/C and OT Service
Professional development
· To demonstrate on-going personal development through participation in relevant development opportunities, both internal and external, recording learning outcomes in a portfolio
· To seek opportunities to develop skills and knowledge base in line with current CPD requirements
Professional Conduct
· To exercise good personal time management, punctuality, and consistent reliable attendance
Research and Development
· To participate in OT/team audit and evaluation activities as agreed with your supervisor
· Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
· hold a qualification such as FETAC Level 5 Care of the Older Person or a diploma in Gerontology or advocacy skills and / or other related qualification; or similar to show an understanding of the duties and role of an Activity Coordinator in the sector.
· be a good communicator, personable with an ability to interact with Residents, Managers, Staff, Volunteers and Activity providers.
· demonstrate ability to organise and manage a team of activity personnel
· be flexible and organised with good leadership skills.
· Confidentiality, courtesy, accountability, discretion, and the ability to work on own initiative are key requisites of the position.
· Be available to attend for work during core hours, at evenings and at times at weekends and bank holidays.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: €15.00-€18.00 per hour
