Basic Grade Psychologist
(Co Action West Cork Children's Disability Network Team)

Specific Purpose Contract - 35 hours per week
(Maternity leave cover)

Co Action West Cork are looking for a Basic Grade Psychologist to cover the West Cork area. This is a specific purpose full time position.

Job Description

This job description indicates the main functions and responsibilities of the post and is subject to review and amendment in light of changing circumstances and may include other duties and responsibilities as may be determined from time to time by the Director of Services/CEO or designated Line Manager. You will be given as much notice of such changes as possible.

Responsible to: Children's Disability Network Manager (CDCM)
Base: You will be addressing the needs of our clients throughout the West Cork catchment area. Your base will be Clonakilty Children’s Services Centre. This will be confirmed prior to commencement.


Overall Purpose of Position:

To work within the interdisciplinary team and the psychology team in the provision of a team and psychological service within West Cork Children’s Disability Network Team (WCCDNT).

Main Responsibilities:

  • To provide a broad range of psychological services to children and their families. Psychology services may be provided directly to the child or indirectly to parents/teachers etc. Psychology services may be provided through face to face consultation or through telehealth.
  • To complete a range of psychological assessments as required.
  • To provide a range of psychological interventions as required including but not exclusive to providing behavioural support, family/sibling support, planning and delivering group work to children etc.
  • To liaise with children and their families as appropriate with regard to assessments, outcomes, interventions and reviews.
  • To actively participate in the West Cork Children’s Disability Network Team internal meetings, e.g. psychology meetings, area meetings, family service plan meetings etc. as appropriate.
  • To work as part of the interdisciplinary team and to be involved in initial team assessments, team reviews and team interventions.
  • To provide professional reports and to participate in case conferences and other consultancy work as may be required.
  • To liaise with other professionals and organisations as appropriate and to represent the organisation at meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • To keep records and submit reports as may be required by the CDNM.
  • To provide in-service training to West Cork Children’s Disability Network Team staff and parents as required or other relevant persons.
  • To take responsibility for own continued professional development.
  • To actively use supervision to benefit one’s professional practice.
  • To carry out research relevant to the organisation as required.
  • To keep up to date with best practice procedures and at all times to work within the parameters of the professional Code of Ethics as laid down by the Psychological Society of Ireland and also the ethos of Co Action West Cork

General Particulars:

  • This is a 35 hours per week post covering a maternity leave.
  • Annual Leave – 25 days
Remuneration:
  • This is in line with the HSE Psychologist Staff grade salary scale.
Other Requirements:
  • Each candidate must have their own means of transport and a full driving licence.
  • If being processed for appointment, original documentation will be sought for: All qualification requirements for the post and any additional qualification(s) that you may be awarded marks for at interview. In the event that a number of years experience is required for a post, you will be requested to provide documentary evidence that you possess same. If you are the holder of a non-Irish qualification, please note that in order to be appointed, your qualifications must be verified by the Psychological Society of Ireland.

Essential Qualifications:


Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed application form for the post possess:

  • An honours primary degree in Psychology
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Psychology
  • Your own means of transport with applicable licence
  • Be a member of, or be eligible for membership of, the Psychological Society of Ireland


Essential Skills:

  • He/She should be a good communicator, both verbally and literally with excellent interpersonal skills
  • He/She will have skills in providing support to families with a range of challenges including support with their children’s emotional and behavioural regulation, distressed behaviour etc.
  • He/She will have the skills to carry out psychological assessments for children
  • He/She will have good report writing skills and the ability to plan, implement and review individual and group programmes.
  • He/She will have a flexible nature and be capable of working individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • He/She will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and keen to develop professional skills.


Desirable Skills:


He/She should demonstrate skills in the planning and delivery of comprehensive psychological services to children with complex developmental needs and their families within a community setting



Essential Experience:

  • He/She must have experience of working with children
Desired Experience:
  • He/She have experience of working with children with complex developmental needs within a community setting. Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
