Role Summary: The primary role of the Physiotherapy Assistant is to assist the Physiotherapist in the implementation of the treatment programmes, while delivering a high standard of care and ensure all physio practices reflect the privacy, dignity and respect of our residents and underpins all the basic values that contribute to an excellent quality of life. Establish and maintain relationships with residents that are based on respect and equality.
Responsibilities and duties will include but are not limited to:

Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the physiotherapy team by communicating openly with the physiotherapy staff.
Direct all enquiries about a residents’ condition to Physiotherapist.
Assist the physiotherapist in the assessment of residents and the implementation of treatment interventions as directed by the Physiotherapist.
Carry out one to one intervention under the direction of the Physiotherapist.
Prepare the resident and the environment for treatment as directed by the Physiotherapist.
Organise and supervise therapeutic activities, with individual residents/groups as directed by the Physiotherapist.
Demonstrate knowledge and training in the safe use of physiotherapy equipment during therapeutic interventions as directed by the Physiotherapist.
Observe general behaviour, ability and response of the resident to a therapeutic intervention and reports the observation to the Physiotherapist.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a resident’s needs to involve and motivate the residents in the physiotherapeutic process.
Maintain order, cleanliness and tidiness of treatment areas and equipment in accordance with local departmental guidelines.
The Physiotherapy Assistant must report, support and assist the management team during internal and external audits/inspections.
Be committed, patient and caring person with a sense of humour and a positive outlook on life.
Activities programmes must adhere to the Sonas Values, policies and procedures of the nursing home and the working environment.
Must be available to work various days, evenings and weekend shifts when required.

Education & Qualifications:

Desirable: FETAC/QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support Certificate including modules on Physiotherapy Theory and practice or sports and leisure.
Willing to: Complete the training provided by Sonas for the role. This will include online learning and mentorship. Full Irish Driver’s License is essential as the successful applicant will need to travel between both our Roscommon Nursing Homes.

Skills and Experience:

Possess a high regard for and practice good health and safety procedures at all times.
Experience of working in a health care setting and/or with older people.
Good communication skills.
Full Irish Driver’s License is essential.
