Position Summary

We invite applications by suitably qualified Post-Doctoral Researchers or Senior Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the area of Cyber Security/Privacy and Data Analytics.

The position will suit a newly qualified Post-Doctoral Researcher. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Paolo Palmieri, who is a Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security in the School of Computer Science & Information Technology, University College Cork, Ireland, and Prof. Barry O’Sullivan, who is a Professor of Computer Science in the School of Computer Science & Information Technology, University College Cork, Ireland.

The position is until December 2025, with a possibility of extension subject to project extension & availability of funding. The successful candidates will be appointed at Post-Doctoral or Senior Post-Doctoral level depending on their experience and qualifications. A budget for travel, equipment, publications and other research expenses is available as part of the projects.

The Post-Doctoral Researcher will work primarily on an industry project with the industry partner in the area of privacy and security. This role is funded initially through Empower & The Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics Industry Partner and may lead to other research engagement opportunities with industry/academic partners.

The ideal applicant holds a Ph D in Computer Science or related disciplines and has experience in cyber security and privacy research. He/She has published in relevant high-quality conferences and journals and has a track record in one or more of the following research areas: differential privacy, anonymity, re-identification and/or cryptography. Previous experience in working with industry partners is an asset.

The Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics (http://www.insight-centre.org) is an SFI funded Research Centre that brings together researchers within University College Dublin, NUI Galway, University College Cork, and Dublin City University, as well as other partner institutions, Trinity College Dublin (TCD), University of Limerick (UL), Maynooth University (MU) and Tyndall National Institute. It creates a critical mass of more than 400 researchers within Ireland's leading ICT clusters to carry out research on a new generation of data analytics technologies in a number of key application domain areas, such as Health and Human Performance, Smart Communities, Internet of Things, Enterprise and Services and Sustainability and Operations.

This position will be in Insight as part of the SFI Empower Spoke (https://www.empower-datagovernance.ie/) which is an academic and industry research programme, designed to future proof EU data flows and drive innovations in data protection internationally. The Empower programme will develop systems to protect citizens and work to their advantage while streamlining data exchange in the European business ecosystem. The programme represents research of almost €10 million focused on Data Platforms, Data Governance and Ecosystems, and will involve researchers within four SFI Research Centres: Lero, the programme lead, Insight, ADAPT and Future Neuro, coordinated by Empower Director, Professor Markus Helfert, based in Maynooth University.

Project Title: Cyber Security & Privacy

Post Duration: Anticipated Duration 13.5 Months

Salary: €44,847 - €51,313 per annum, (IUA PD1 Scale) / €52,715 - €57,332 per annum, (IUA PD 2 Scale)
