JOB TITLE: Sound Technician

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head of Lighting Sound/ Deputy Head of Sound

CONTRACT: Permanent

The Abbey Theatre is Ireland’s national theatre and occupies a unique position in the hearts and minds of Irish people. It comprises of two theatres: the Abbey, with a seating capacity of 492 seats, and the Peacock, with a seating capacity of 157 seats. The Abbey is committed to producing a year round programme of work both on and off stage, with the priority to create work of excellence, which not only showcases Irish and international drama but also engages with the artistic and civic life of contemporary Ireland.

Duties:
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Lighting Sound and the Deputy Head of Sound.
Duties will include the rigging and de-rigging of sound equipment for Abbey theatre productions, maintenance of sound equipment including communications and 100v line systems, Audio operation for Abbey and Peacock productions both in house and touring if required, assist in the day to day running and housekeeping of the sound department, reinforce and record public events outside of the stage production, and work with sound designers/ composers to realise the design requirements for in house productions.

Skills / Experience:

  • Minimum of two years experience as a Sound Technician in a theatre environment.
  • Experience of mixing/ operating live sound
  • Experience in time aligning and EQing PA
  • Experience of working on productions with radio mic transmitter and receiver systems, preparing radio microphones to be worn by performers and the maintenance of these during long performance runs
  • Good computer/ IT skills.
  • Experience in recording and editing.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Display an ability to demonstrate initiative and adaptability.
  • Excellent communication and team working skills.
  • Ability to work at height
  • Ability to lift up to 25Kg

Desirable:

Knowledge / experience of the following:

  • Preparing and maintaining radio mics for mid-large scale productions with a large number of users
  • Knowledge of Radio systems such as Sennheiser and Shure
  • Wireless Systems Manager and/or Wireless Workbench
  • db audiotechnik speakers and amps
  • SMAART
  • Nexo speakers and amps
  • QLab 4
  • Pro-Tools
  • Dante Lvl 1- 3
  • Yamaha sound consoles, QL5/ PM5, LS9.
  • Clearcom Freespeak 2


Qualifications:
  • Relevant sound technician qualification
