Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Genoa - Italy.

Accountabilities:

Software Requirements Analysis

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

Software Coding and Testing:

• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
• Conduct thorough testing to ensure software quality.

Software Documentation Production:

• Create comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, and technical guides.

Partners collaboration:

• Collaborate with partners by reading, writing and sharing technical documentation.
• Review partners architecture, code, and tests.
• Working collaboratively to resolve issues and build a shared understanding of the codebase.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Technical skills

• Algorithms and Data Structures: understanding of algorithms and data structures for efficient coding.
• Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): understanding the software development process, from planning to coding, testing, troubleshooting, debugging and deployment.
• Languages: proficiency at least in Java and Python, programming language
• Architectures: proficiency in Microservices Architectures, expertise in containerization systems like Docker, familiarity with container orchestration tools, and knowledge of cloud computing platforms
• Database: Competence in database concepts with experience on RDBMS (Postgres, My Sql, etc.) and SQL usage for DB querying and manipulation; familiarity with No SQL DBMS.
• Scripting: proficiency in using the command line for tasks, including file manipulation, system configuration, and troubleshooting. Ability to write and understand shell scripts (Bash, Power Shell, etc.).
• Experience with version control systems like Git for collaborative coding.
• Experience in usage and basic administration of Linux operating system.

Soft skills

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Team collaboration, time management, and attention to detail
• Effective communication for collaborating with team members in an international and complex organization, ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools in the rapidly evolving field of software development.

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

• Experience in the field of digital development for the transportation industry
• HTML5, Javascript development framework
• Cybersecurity standard and design techniques

Education/Qualifications:

Engineering Degree or equivalent technical background.

Languages

Fluent Knowledge of English (written & spoken).
