THE CONTEXT:
To further improve the understanding of WC-Co hard materials, the crack propagation in samples of these materials shall be analysed. Therefore, specifically prepared samples need to be tested until crack initiation to measure the crack growth behaviour from there. Different grade results shall then be analysed, compared and documented.
THE GOALS:
Identify and evaluate Crack growth behaviour in different WC-Co grades.
YOUR TASKS:
  • Improve controller setup and test parameters
  • Create initial cracks
  • Generate growth of existing cracks
  • Grow cracks until failure
  • Apply evaluation tools (image stitching, crack identification and measurement)
  • Document crack growth behaviour
  • Identify crack growth rates and crack growth resistance curves
  • Analyse and interpret data, compare different grades
  • Document results
YOUR PROFIL:
  • Being currently enrolled in a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or equivalent
  • Having knowledge about fracture mechanics would be an asset
  • Speaking fluently English
