Position Overview:
The School Nurse will oversee all aspects of health services for students, staff, and team athletes, ensuring a safe and healthy school environment. This includes managing day-to-day healthcare needs, administering first aid, responding to medical emergencies, and providing support for athletic activities on campus and during competitions nationwide. Additionally, the School Nurse will assist expatriate staff with medical needs, offering guidance and recommendations to help them navigate local healthcare systems.

Occasional travel to off campus athletic events
Key Responsibilities:
1. General Health Promotion:
- Ensure preventative health programs and practices are implemented and maintained annually. Such programs include regular review of health records, vision & hearing exams, scoliosis screens, height and weight measurements, lice checks, etc.
- Assist the academic department to minimize physical barriers to academic success of students.
- Liaise with the U.S. Embassy and Consulate medical staff as needed.
- Assist with formal classroom instruction in areas of nursing expertise or sensitive content such as reproductive health and emergency response training.
- Monitor and prevent the spread of contagious diseases.
- Ensure safety and adequate emergency medical care is available for GWA school trips.
- Provide direct care for students, including assessing, treating, and managing illnesses, injuries, and chronic conditions.
- Provide direction and guidance to matters affecting student individual health (monitoring injuries and accidents, access to safe water, best practices in food preparation, etc.).
- Administer first aid, medication, and care for minor injuries and illnesses.
- Conduct regular health screenings, including vision, hearing, and other assessments as needed.
- Provide first aid and health services to staff members on campus.
- Assist expatriate staff with navigating the local healthcare system, including making medical referrals and recommendations.
- Provide health education and wellness resources to staff as part of the school’s wellness initiatives.
- Support student-athletes by providing medical care during practices, games, and athletic meets, both on-campus and during nationwide competitions.
- Collaborate with the athletic director and staff to ensure proper health protocols and injury prevention measures are in place.
- Assist with health management for travel teams, including preparation for competitions and providing care during travel.
- Ensure the school complies with local and international health and safety regulations.
- Develop and update health-related policies and protocols in collaboration with school administration.
- Stay informed about public health trends and make recommendations for school policies based on current health guidelines.
- Provide individual health education to students and staff on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Organize workshops and programs to promote health and wellness in the school community.
- Collaborate with school counselors and staff on mental health initiatives and promote holistic well-being.
- Develop and implement emergency care plans for students and staff with chronic health conditions.
- Manage and train staff on emergency response protocols, including CPR, first aid, and crisis intervention.
- Coordinate with local healthcare providers and emergency services to ensure a timely and effective response to any medical emergencies.
- Maintain accurate health records for all students, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with health regulations. This includes the timely updating of files, records and the GWA systems.
- Identify and collect missing medical information to complete student health files and work directly with parents to ensure all up to date information is received. This includes student medical files with chronic medical problems such as asthma, food allergies and diabetes.
- Complete event reports when significant injuries occur during school hours or under GWA supervision for students and/or staff.
- File and complete necessary medical forms and maintain an organized work space to ensure all necessary documents are readily available.
- Work directly with the insurance broker to arrange travel insurance for all students and staff traveling to off-campus events as needed.
- Prepare regular reports for school leadership on health-related matters.
- Ensure the school's medical supplies are adequately stocked and maintained, including the management of first aid kits.
- Assist Lead Nurse with any needed purchasing orders, acquiring necessary medical equipment and supplies working with the finance team and supervisor.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor degree in Nursing (current and active Moroccan nursing license) is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in a school environment.
- Must maintain current adult/child/infant CPR and first aid certifications at all times. Preferably from the American Heart Association.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with faculty, students, parents and other GWA-related partners.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience facilitating workshops and coaching educators is desirable.
- Written and spoken fluency in English, French and Arabic.
