About Terre des Hommes
Terre des Hommes Netherlands aims to protect children by preventing and stopping child exploitation, and by empowering children to make their voices count. Terre des Hommes Netherlands focuses on Sexual Exploitation of Children (SEC), Child Labour, Child Trafficking and Humanitarian Action. For each of these forms of child exploitation, Terre des Hommes Netherlands is developing and implementing projects and programmes through local partners, mainly in Asia, Africa and Europe. Join us!
What will you work on
The internship is both a learning and personal development experience for the intern, as well as knowledge-enhancing for the internship provider. The specific tasks and projects will be defined in agreement with the intern and will be based on interest, experience and skills.
The intern’s responsibilities are to:
  • Co-create a learning and mentorship plan, tailored to suit your interests, needs, knowledge capacity and skills with clear goals against which to review your progress during and at the end of the internship.
  • Participate in regular one-on-one learning & support sessions with the SEC Ho P, mid-term and post-internship reflection meetings,
  • Maintain an internship diary, and submit a reflections report at the end of the internship.
  • Complete online child safeguarding training, as well as introductory online courses on children’s rights, gender and intersectionality;
  • Track hours and maintain a healthy internship-life balance.
  • Contribute to a respectful and inclusive workplace.
Other tasks may include:
  • Supporting the development, implementation and dissemination of research on child sexual exploitation;
  • Contributing to desk reviews on topics related to child sexual exploitation;
  • Contributing to the development, review and referencing of concept notes, guidelines and other documents related to the sexual exploitation of children;
  • Supporting the coordination of learning and knowledge-exchange meetings and events involving staff working at country, regional and global levels;
  • Assisting in tracking donors and funding opportunities related to the sexual exploitation of children;
  • Assisting in identifying international, regional and national advocacy, learning and knowledge-sharing opportunities;
  • Accompanying the Head of Programme (Ho P) and other SEC TP staff to meetings with stakeholders and partners, when appropriate;
  • Participating actively in All Staff, SEC team meetings, and other learning and collaboration spaces within Td H, and taking minutes when needed;
  • Communicating internally with staff at country, regional and global levels to share knowledge and inspire;
  • Providing general support to the SEC TP team when completing planned and reactive tasks.

Profile
  • Passion for children’s rights and interest in child protection, sexual exploitation of children, and gender rights.
  • A particular interest in diversity, inclusion and intersectionality would be an added bonus.
  • Currently enrolled in a Masters or Doctoral degree in international relations, international development studies, political science, sociology, social work, social policy, criminology, gender studies or related field.
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in conducting desk research required. Primary research skills are desirable but not essential.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, both in person and online.
  • Able to articulate problems and ask for assistance when needed.
  • Willingness to learn, think out of the box, share innovative ideas, contribute actively and collaborate with diverse colleagues.
  • Time-keeping and respect for deadlines. Ability to communicate failure to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Ability to balance internship responsibilities with academic and personal commitments.
  • Willingness to reflect on learning and development needs, articulate concerns and areas requiring growth.
  • Commitment to Td H’s core values and principles, including inclusivity and placing children at the centre.
