Job Description

Avery Dennison is looking for a microscopy specialist with experience in characterization materials particularly polymers and a demonstrated strength scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS). The position will be with the analytical group in headquarters EMENA in Oegstgeest, Netherlands, where we support and resolve technical problems ranging from long term projects to urgent manufacturing and quality issues. The position will involve the use of experimental, theoretical and data analysis:

  • Perform analyses using scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS) techniques to address complex challenging problems in the fields of chemistry, material science, and engineering that are critical to Avery Dennison. The primary focus will be characterizing and investigating polymeric materials, small molecules and mixtures, with a highly multidisciplinary approach to problem solving.
  • Interpret data, write technical reports, and communicate analytical results with team members and cross-functional teams including chemists, engineers and end users in a professional, high- quality and timely manner.
  • Conceive, develop and validate test methods for both routine and non-routine analysis, identify trends and solve problems at the elemental level using sound fundamentals and creative thinking.
  • Expertly troubleshoot, maintain and administer existing electronic microscopy instrument. Seek out and evaluate new characterization tools and techniques to support new product development and effective problem-solving.
  • Efficiently prioritize and manage personal and team resources.

Qualifications
  • Preferred Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience with electron microscopy and knowledge of infrared spectroscopy is a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functional teams.
  • High levels of motivation, initiative, and energy.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
