Icon Marine Manufacturing Limited
Aluminium Welder/Fabricator – MIG/TIG
Christchurch
FULL TIME
September 10, 2024
Our boats have been exported to all corners of the globe and range in size from 3.6m dinghies to 18m + monohulls and catamarans in both the pleasure and commercial markets.
Due to current workload, positions have arisen within the company for the immediate start of a competent alloy welder/fabricator. While most of the work to be undertaken will be new boat and trailer builds, there is always a steady flow of repair and customisation work that comes in via our Icon Marine Hub service workshop.
The ideal applicant will be enthusiastic, motivated and proficient in MIG welding, ideally but not exclusively of aluminium. Either a current ISO standard Alloy MIG welding ticker or demonstration of the ability to achieve the qualification (at the company’s cost) following a trial period will be required. TIG welding experience would also be beneficial. While a boat building background would be beneficial, its not essential. Ability to follow instructions is a must but equally beneficial is the ability to problem solve and offer solutions to achieve customers needs. The following attributes are also must haves;
1. Comprehensive understanding of MIG(ideally alloy but mild steel is a good starting point)) or TIG welding procedures
2. Attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards at all times
3. Good punctuality and time keeping
4. Ability to maximise efficiency day to day no matter the project
5. Ability to work un-supervised
6. Ability to read and interpret plans
7. Be a good team player and get on with others
8. A high level of pride in workmanship
Remuneration will be directly proportionate to the proven skills of the right applicant on completion of a trial period (max. 90 days). Demonstration of a ‘can do’ attitude and the ability to solve problems or put forward suggestions about how to achieve a customer’s goal within the trial period will make a candidate stand out from the crowd.
The standard hours of work are 8 – 5 Monday to Thursday, 8 – 4 Friday. As per the needs of the business, over time may be required from time to time, including evenings and weekends as dictated by deadlines.
Please submit a CV/References and/or detail and evidence of any relevant prior experience to Andrew at the following email address;
andrew@iconbrands.co.nz
Please note we are NOT an INZ accredited employer and are unable to offer rolls to individuals in New Zealand on termporary work visas
Upon receipt of a CV and completion of reference checks, suitable applicants will be contacted to arrange a time to visit Icon Marine Manufacturing to undertake a weld test to verify their skill set. It should be noted that this position is NOT a trainee position.
