The Opportunity
Our Environmental Monitoring team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for 4 Environmental Technical Assistant to join the team on a fixed-term (6 months), full-time (37.5 hours per week) basis, in our busy Dunedin or Alexandra office.
The purpose of this role is for the collection of water samples, for biological and cyanobacteria sampling from bathing beaches, to assist with SOE electric fishing, biomonitoring, biodiversity, and general field work in the Coastal and Central areas during the summer period. This requires the measurement, validation and archiving of the key environmental parameters to enable the Council to make informed decisions.
You will be part of a field team, working closely with our data team to provide accurate information on the natural resources of Otago to external and internal stakeholders in an efficient and timely manner.
As an Environmental Technical Assistant, you will be responsible for:

• Collecting, validating, and archiving environmental data
• Collecting samples for analysis
• Developing and maintaining processes for data validation and archiving in conjunction with EM staff
• Assisting in maintaining internal procedures that are aligned with National Environmental monitoring Standards (NEMS)

About You
Our ideal candidate will have:

• Study towards an Environmental Science degree or similar tertiary degree.
• Full, clean drivers' licence
• Proficient computer skills and accurate data entry
• Good observational skills with attention to detail
• Must be available to work on statutory days over Christmas and New Year
