Te Puni Kōkiri is the government's principal policy advisor on Māori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for and with Māori. This includes our mandate to promote Māori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles. We have several key leadership opportunities available in our Data, Insights and Monitoring directorate.
Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, Data Insights and Monitoring, the Manager, Research and Evaluation is critical to ensuring the strategic positioning and role that research and evaluation plays in building the evidence base for Te Puni Kōkiri to be effective system monitors.
The Manager, Research & Evaluation will use their expertise to:
  • Lead the creation and implementation of an evaluation programme that aligns to Government and Ministerial Priorities in key areas of influence for Te Puni Kōkiri
  • Lead a small but bespoke research programme of work that identifies opportunities that lead to economic growth or the adoption of whānau ora and whānau centre frameworks as trusted delivery models for the public sector.
  • Provide leadership and strategic advice to direct and deliver to the Research and Evaluation work programme of Te Puni Kōkiri
  • Be a trusted advisor to a wide range of stakeholders who can support the development of solutions based on your
  • Lead a team of highly skilled kaimahi and support them on best practice, implementation and opportunities as they present themselves.
  • Lead and model a strong collaborative work approach and culture.
The appointment range for the Manager role is between $153,574 and $191,967 per annum and the salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills and experience.

To be successful in this role, you will have experience working in Research and Evaluation environments. You will have experience leading and mentoring teams. You are motivated to help others succeed and are committed to creating open, collaborative environments where all kaimahi can share knowledge and contribute. You're a people person who can easily translate complex ideas into workable delivery programmes. Experience working in hybrid agile environments is a plus. This is also a unique opportunity to work with Māori data including appropriate methodology to in a research and/or evaluation context.
