Fantastic Opportunity currently exists for a Product and Packaging Technologist to join a highly engaged team and in a role where you can really leave your mark. Based in Wiri, this role will develop and introduce new products, optimisation projects, processes and packaging within the business & ensure compliance with Nestlé policy & procedures with respect to quality, regulatory, competitiveness and profitability.
A day in the life…
Reporting to the Applications Group Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and execute New Product Development (NPD) and Ideation and Realisation (I&R) in accordance with idea to launch project briefs within a cross functional team.
- Participate in factory trials and evaluate results to ensure an optimised fit-for-purpose product/packaging design.
- Ensure standards for products and packaging meet all aspects of the technical, safety, food safety & regulatory compliance.
- Ensure the 3Cs (consumer, compliance, competitive advantage) are achieved and industrialisation and process improvement activities achieve commercial targets and meet customer and consumer needs.
- Build and Maintain knowledge of relevant legislations and ensure application of Food Standards, Packaging requirements, NAL Safety legislation, Nestle Standards etc.
- Build networks with PTC, SBU, R&D, Factory AG Teams, Corporate Packaging, and Nestle Markets to keep abreast of manufacturing, packaging and product trends.
- Participate in HACCP, audits and other regulatory and compliance activities for the team.
- Ensure trials, validations, regulatory and compliance activities (including label development) and permit applications are compliant and accurate.
- Use and maintain SAP for development recipes, recipe changes, ingredient data and packaging materials.
- Lead the packaging function for the site through providing support and expertise to projects and production as required, working closely with suppliers and corporate packaging and ensuring the packaging aspects of the Applications Group are accurate and compliant.
What will make you successful
You will have strong demonstrated experience in product & or packaging development and will have:
- Joining a collaborative team of specialists, you will be a strong team player with a drive to deliver quality outcomes.
- Food Science, Applied Science, Engineering or similar minimum Bachelor Degree qualification.
- Minimum 3+ years in product & or packaging development within the food manufacturing industry.
- Experience with project management and stakeholder management.
- Participation in Stage Gate managed new product introduction projects, timelines and project management.
- Participation in industry groups, seminars and technology workshops.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement and problem-solving tools.
- Ability to provide strong leadership and technical training to factory personnel.
- Proven track record in delivering results by working with cross-functional teams.
- Previous experience and familiarity working with SAP preferred.
- A working understanding of NZ Food Regulations is beneficial.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and a proven capacity to influence and negotiate to drive high standards of performance and quality.
