New Zealand Customs Service
Policy Analysts and Senior Policy Analysts
Auckland
FULL TIME
September 12, 2024
The New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) is responsible for facilitating the legitimate movement of people and goods across the border, supporting trade, managing border risks and collecting customs and excise revenue on behalf of the Crown.
An opportunity is available for Policy Analysts/Senior Policy Analysts to join the International team at Customs. This role is a fixed term (or secondment) opportunity to July 2025 (possible extension) and can be based in either our Wellington or Auckland Customhouses.
As an analyst, you will be responsible for the engagement with countries within a specific geographic region, or international organisation. Working closely with our offshore Counsellors, you'll have a particular focus on developing and maintaining relationships with key agencies in that region.
To be successful in this position you'll need to demonstrate the following relevant skills and attributes:
- Attention to detail
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Relationship management skills
- An ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Strategic thinking.
This role offers a great deal of variety, so you'll need to be able to self-manage while being responsive to overseas counterparts and to the Customs Executive.
The team delivers at a range of levels, including providing strategic advice to inform our international engagement and supporting the coordination of international events hosted in New Zealand. This includes preparing briefs and supporting event planning and logistics. The successful candidate will be agile, have a strong work ethic and be able to deliver across the range of tasks undertaken by the team.
To apply…
To join Customs in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or NZ permanent resident. *
- This means:
a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years and resides in NZ at the time of application. You may have been absent from New Zealand for periods of six or more months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA. You will be required to provide overseas police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.
Applicants must have an appropriate tertiary qualification, or equivalent relevant work experience, and be able to obtain the appropriate clearances. Successful applicants must be willing to undergo drug testing as part of the selection process.
Please apply online submitting your CV and cover letter outlining your interest for applying, and the skills and attributes you would bring to the role.
