He angitūtanga: About the Roles
We are looking for Senior and Principal advisors to lead, manage and contribute to varied work that crosses operational policy and implementation design.
- Operational policy advice: provide advice on the interpretation of policy for colleagues and the sector, support drafting secondary legislation, draft contract conditions, and critically assess policy proposals to provide implementation advice
- Operational policy analysis and implementation design: explore and define problems, design how policy and strategy work in practice, create fit-for-purpose implementation products such as guidance, investment assessment criteria, and application forms
- Plan and deliver: Plan and scope work, meet deadlines, identify risks and issues, and collaborate with other teams to ensure coordinated implementation
- Communication: Seek decisions and keep everyone in the loop; draft memos, guidelines, website content, and presentations; use effective communication tactics to manage change.
The Policy and Implementation Group has two teams, Operational Policy and Policy Implementation. The teams work across a shared work programme and team members are assigned initiatives based on capacity and capability rather than team.
Principal Advisor, Operational Policy (fixed term)
The midpoint of the salary range is $150,923+ 3% Kiwisaver.
The Principal Advisor role will become a member of the Policy & Implementation leadership group. The role will provide thought leadership and technical support across the work programme and for all group members. The ideal candidate will enjoy being across a range of initiatives (not sole focus) and working collaboratively with others to review and support work.
Previous experience working in government in a policy and/or operational policy environment, particularly in administration of legislation and/or investment programmes is highly desirable.
Given the technical nature of the role, tertiary policy experience is highly desirable.
Senior Advisor, Operational Policy (permanent)
Senior Advisor, Policy Implementation (12 months fixed term)
The midpoint of the salary range is $109,797 + 3% Kiwisaver.
Senior Advisors will work on and lead small, medium, and larger pieces of work to deliver the right outcomes and solve the problem at hand.
Previous experience working in government in a policy and/or operational policy environment, particularly in administration of legislation and/or investment programmes is highly desirable.
Experience with tertiary education policy sector is desirable but not essential.
