Wellington

PART TIME

October 30, 2024

Company Description
Company Description

Dam Safety Intelligence (DSI) is a dedicated group of engineers, scientists and geologists delivering dam management expertise to dam owners in New Zealand and internationally. We partner with our clients to manage risk and provide assurance of asset safety and longevity. We’re a high-performing business in a strong phase of growth and have many exciting years ahead of us as we continue to expand our client base and service offerings.
We’re a subsidiary of Meridian Energy, New Zealand’s largest generator of energy from 100% renewable sources – wind, water and sun. At DSI, we place high value on relationships and understanding our clients’ needs to find solutions fit for them. We work for a range of small to highly advanced dam owners locally in NZ and internationally in Australia, Fiji, Philippines, North America and Europe. We are proud to offer our services to facilitate dam safety for generations. Within the team, we have over 100 years of national and international experience in the dam industry.
What you'll be doing
We only take a small number of summer students each year, and we only want the best! In return we’ll make sure you get some great hands-on experience. You’ll be trusted with owning work and will be supported by a friendly team of experts along the way, who will help develop your knowledge, skills, and professional profile. You will contribute to our important work of dam safety through an active role in updating our bespoke cloud surveillance and monitoring platform for the major hydropower generators in Aotearoa. You may visit structures to undertake annual site inspections and support the write up of performance evaluation reports.
As a summer student with DSI, you’ll have the chance to contribute to the safe performance of some of New Zealand’s most iconic assets while engaging in various aspects of our business. This programme will help you develop real-world business and technical skills.
What are we after?
If you're studying Engineering, (Civil, Mechanical, Geotechnical, Water Resources, Natural Resources or similar) Geology or other similar Science degree and are currently in your 2nd or 3rd year, then our summer student opportunity is the programme for you!
We’ve got a strong culture - we like to work hard and have fun whilst we’re doing it. We live by three ‘How to Be’s’: Be gutsy, be a good human, and be in the waka. These complement our DSI hallmarks that define how we want to work as a team within DSI and how we work with our clients.
Doing business is easy
  • Our clients enjoy working with us, nothing is too hard
  • Never a bad time, no issue too small
Collaborate
  • Listening to clients (and each other) and inviting their input
  • Utilise the full team’s experience and knowledge
Create and innovate
  • Don’t assume the default (the way it’s always been done) is the best
  • Continuous improvement approach (open to feedback and doing things better)
Take ownership
  • Treat clients’ assets and problems like they are our own
  • Take initiative and stand behind our work
Leaders in what we do
  • We have the greatest collective dam safety expertise in our NZ market
  • We strive to continuously develop our expertise and service offering for our owner and clients’ benefit
Why Dam Safety Intelligence?
DSI is truly flexible, diverse, and inclusive: in our workplace, you can feel comfortable bringing your whole self to work. Our summer student opportunity is a great pathway to our grad roles, giving us a strong indication of your work ethics, and giving you an understanding of why DSI is a great place to work and why dam safety is a great career choice.
If this sounds like something you’d be keen on, and you want to bring your energy to dive on into the world of dam safety, then apply today and tell us why!
What next?
If you’re keen on being part of our summer programme, please upload a copy of your CV and a Transcript with your application, outlining your motivations and why you want to be considered. Feel free to also add a cover letter to your application, to give us even more reasons to bring you on board!
  • Please note - you’ll need to be available for interviews via MS Teams the week of 11th November 2024 (NB timeframes may be adjusted and we will advise you in advance of any changes).
Our internship runs from December 2024 – February 2025 with a small break over Christmas/New Year. For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity for ongoing casual/part time employment.
If you’ve any questions, please email dsi-info@damsafety.co.nz and someone from the Team will get back to you.
Applications close 6th November 2024.
