Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
We are seeking a Team Manager to lead our Animal Approvals and Advice team within Biosecurity New Zealand (BNZ). This team is responsible for assisting stakeholders to achieve their regulatory and non-regulatory obligations for import permits and approval systems for imported live animals & animal products. You and your team will need to work collaboratively across the Biosecurity Import and Export Standards directorate to achieve our shared objectives and lift overall performance.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing staff to ensure team engagement, provide clear direction and expectations, performance management, and opportunities for learning and development
- Ensuring the success of approval processes, permits, and the permit system for the import of animals and animal products, as well as identifying continuous improvement opportunities
- Managing all non-compliance reports and enquiries relating to import health standards for animals and animal products
You will be a collaborative manager with experience building a strong team culture to lead and implement change. To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Proven management experience, ideally from the public sector environment, and in an operational policy development role
- Experience in application or permit processing in a regulatory environment and experience with process re-design to ensure more efficient delivery
- Experience in developing strategies and initiatives to support the implementation of regulatory and non-regulatory tools and services
- Experience in navigating the machinery of government and understanding of regulatory best practice
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with a wide variety of people, including demonstrated success working across business groups in a collaborative manner using effective influencing skills
- Risk management experience, ideally within animal health
- A veterinary degree recognised by the Veterinary Council of New Zealand would be an advantage
Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team
The Team Manager Animal Approvals and Advice reports to the Manager Implementation & Approvals. This team is part of the Biosecurity Import and Export Standards directorate within Biosecurity New Zealand. You will be managing a team of seven, consisting of a mix of Advisers, Senior Advisers and Specialist Advisers all located in Wellington.
