Purpose for the job:
Smart demand, supply and use of data and information drives better results for children especially when the right data and information are in the right hands at the right time as this leads to decisions that are better informed, more equitable and more likely to protect childrens rights. This post is within the WASH & CED programme and will focus on collection and the use of WASH&CED data. The primary function of this post is to connect analytics, monitoring and learning to support evidence-based advocacy, conduct visualizations as well as to be a knowledge broker and support improved results for children. This post provides leadership, oversight and technical capacity for the responsible analysis and use of data and information within the programme UNICEF Pakistan country Office as well as with its partners. It includes technical support to field Offices, to implementing partner organisations and to government counterparts to collect, analyze and use data and information to inform policies and programmes which affect the situation of children.
How can you make a difference?
- Data analysis, Data visualization and Data driven Advocacy
- Support the analysis of data on the situation of children, including in humanitarian situations, and the transformation into insight to inform management and wash teams in field offices for evidence-based policy advocacy, policy advice and programmatic action.
- Provide support to the development of visualisation products including maps, dashboards, infographic as well as financial/resource analyses that reflect inequalities and identify the most disadvantaged children in a way that is easily understood by decision makers.
- Data integration and innovation
- Contribute to the development of the Data integration system and the data driven tools and analytics that leverage the frontier data such as social media data, and geospatial data, in addition to conventional data sources such as household surveys
- Assist the Wash section colleagues in Islamabad and the provincial partners in the country about the utilization of the data integration system.
- Data preparedness and responsiveness to emergencies
- Provide technical assistance to strengthen provincial statistical and data systems that have flex, including baseline investments needed to strengthen preparedness and responsiveness to emergencies.
- Responsible to strengthen information management functions within Field Country Offices for data sharing, adherence to standards, coherence, and relevance.
- Build GIS and mapping capacities in the programme.
- Data literacy and capacity building
- Plan and organize data capacity-building activities to enhance knowledge and skills within programme and field offices relating to collection, analysis and use of Wash data for decision making.
- Promote evidence-based decision-making by organizing tailored training for the wash field offices colleagues, government and Implementing partners.
- Support the wash colleagues in the field offices on the updating provincial statistical and data systems to include the latest indicators needed monitoring and reporting on child-related SDG targets)
- Knowledge management
- Share lessons learned from data analysis and research and identify and promote best practices in data analytics.
- Contribute to knowledge management WASH&CED initiatives within UNICEF Pakistan.
Minimum requirements:
- A university degree (Bachelor's) in statistics, data science, demography, or in a related field that includes strong quantitative training and experience.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience at the national/international levels in data analysis, data science, and other areas of applied statistics, data interpretation and use in sectors of concern to UNICEF.
- Experience in collection and analysis of data on the situation of children is required.
- Experience in data visualizations tools is required.
- Proven skills in using GIS and map-making packages.
- Good analytical and evidence synthesis skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills especially in communicating complex information and concepts to non-specialist audiences
- Fluency in English is required.
- Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
- Working experience in knowledge management and the ability to data and information into a narrative is an asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station is required for IP positions and will be facilitated by UNICEF. Appointments may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-Co V-2 (Covid). Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
