We are seeking a dynamic Research Officer to play a pivotal role in advancing UMT’s innovation and research initiatives. This role is crucial in helping our faculty and researchers identify, protect, and manage intellectual property (IP) assets, including patents, copyrights, and trademarks. The Research Officer will act as the primary liaison between UMT, the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO), and other relevant bodies, ensuring that all IP-related matters are handled efficiently and in alignment with UMT’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with UMT faculty and researchers to assist in the design, development, and preparation of research projects.
• Identify potential IP assets in collaboration with researchers and determine the best strategies for securing protection through patents, copyrights, and trademarks.
• Serve as the primary point of contact between UMT and the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO) for managing both new and ongoing IP cases.
• Oversee the filing, documentation, and follow-up of intellectual property applications, ensuring that all processes are conducted with accuracy and efficiency under the guidance of the Manager ORIC.
• Monitor the progress of filed IP cases, providing regular updates and ensuring that necessary follow-ups are executed in a timely manner.
• Maintain detailed, confidential records of all intellectual property matters, including pending and approved cases.
• Organize and conduct workshops and training sessions to educate faculty and researchers on the significance of IP rights and the processes involved in protecting their work.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate research projects and ensure effective IP management.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Master’s degree in a relevant field with a strong research component.
• 1-3 years of experience in research facilitation, intellectual property management, or a similar role within an academic or research institution.
• Proven experience in supporting research activities, including project development and protecting research outputs.
• Strong understanding of intellectual property laws and procedures, particularly within the context of Pakistan.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Experience in coordinating with researchers, legal entities, and governmental organizations to facilitate research and IP management is highly desirable.
