Engineer - Licensed

American Cruise Lines is seeking Licensed Engineers for our growing fleet sailing unique itineraries along inland and coastal waterways of the East Coast, Pacific Northwest, Columbia-Snake Rivers and Mississippi-Ohio-Cumberland Rivers. Our U.S. flag ships are state-of-the art designed for safe operation and five-star service to 100-200 guests.
The Engineer is responsible for the overall technical operation and maintenance of ships, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems, while complying with maritime regulations. Our Engineers are responsible for the 24hr response to machinery and system issues, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all vessel machinery, equipment, and systems including pumps, motors, engines, electrical, plumbing, water makers, marine safety devices, elevators, electronics, launches, rescue craft, and other equipment.
Engineers report directly to the shipboard Captain for daily vessel operations and maintenance.
Engineers coordinate machinery and system repairs through Regional Port Engineers, as well as professional development, schedule, job tasking, training, and mentoring.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Oversight: Oversee the operation and maintenance of all shipboard machinery, including the main propulsion system, auxiliary machinery, and electrical systems.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable maritime regulations, including safety standards, pollution prevention measures, and maintenance requirements.
- Maintenance: Implement maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure the ship's machinery is in optimal condition.
- Emergency Response: Implement emergency procedures for handling various technical emergencies, such as engine breakdowns, fires, or flooding.
- Fuel Efficiency: Optimize fuel consumption to minimize operating costs and reduce the ship's environmental impact.
- Inventory Management: Manage the inventory of spare parts, supplies, and lubricants to ensure adequate availability for maintenance and repairs.
- Safety Management: Promote a culture of safety within the engineering department, ensuring that all safety procedures are followed and hazards are mitigated for passengers and crew.
- Cargo Transfers: perform liquid load transfers, watering, refueling, and used oil disposal.
- Communication: Daily morning updates and teamwork with Hotel Officers and Service Crew ensuring five-star guest service.
- Documentation: Log all liquid transfers, machinery repairs, systems failures, consumables inventory.
- Oversight of shipboard contractors: repairs to machinery, equipment, and systems.
- Year-round rotation, negotiable 4-6 weeks on: 2-4 weeks off.
- Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC)
- 5-10 years of experience with diesel machinery, hydraulics, electrical systems.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Proficient with Electronic Planned Maintenance Programs (preferably Helm Connect)
- Familiar with development and operation of Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Proficiency in CAD software a plus (e.g., Auto CAD, Solid Works, Inventor)
- Strong technical knowledge of ship propulsion and auxiliary systems
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing marine machinery
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions in emergency situations
- TWIC – Transportation Worker Identification Card.
- Pre-employment drug test and continual participation in random testing.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
