Overview
The Integrated Micro and Nanotechnologies Research Group is dedicated to performing state of the art research, integrating micro and nanotechnologies to develop innovative solutions in the fields of MEMS and Micro Optical Elements.
We are looking for a qualified Research Engineer to join our team in the development of mechatronic setups and prototypes under two projects.
The Sensitive Industry project (code n.º 72261) concerns mechatronic modules for integration of flat optics for pattern projectors and lenses for compact camera systems.
The Demos Axia project concerns the development of an interactive demonstrator of thin-film technology developed at INL, highlighting different fields of applicability (including microantenna-based NFC smart sensing tags), to be presented at international technology exhibitions. It includes training on technology transfer and a one month secondment at the Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH; in Greece).

Job
Duties
The job duties will be the following:
  • Design mechanical and electronic systems (i.e., ECAD, MCAD);
  • Plan and develop physical prototypes for mechatronic and optical systems;
  • Participate in technology transfer training activities.

Mandatory
Qualifications

Education
  • MSc degree in Electronics, Physics, Mechanics, or other relevant subject.

Experience
and Technical Skills
  • Experience in mechatronic system development (e.g., robotics, adjustable objectives, imaging systems);
  • Experience in mechanical CAD design (e.g., Inventor, Solid Works) and rapid prototyping (e.g., CNC, 3D printing, laser cutting);
  • Experience in setting up laboratory instruments for automatic characterisation;
  • Experience in data analysis and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Matlab);
  • Knowledge in electronics and PCB design (e.g., Altium).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in development of mechanical modules for optical systems is valued;
  • Previous experience in designing optomechanics for laboratory experiments is valued;
  • Experience in building characterisation setups, including computer interfacing (e.g., Labview, Matlab or Python) and data acquisition (i.e., Labview or Python) is valued;
  • Previous experience in NFC tag programming is valued.

  • Strong motivation to work both independently and as part of a team in an interdisciplinary environment, with the ability to pay close attention to detail and to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in the dissemination of results to the scientific community are expected;
  • Problem solving ability;

How the Selection Process works

This stage will be carried out on the basis of the mandatory requirements, education, experience and technical skills defined for the job, as well as the validation of the mandatory documents. Only candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will move forward to the next stage.

B. CV Assessment
The Selection Committee will evaluate the eligible applications based on their CV and other submitted documents and the suitability for the position. The best ranked candidates will be shortlisted for the interview stage(s).

C. Interview(s)
The interview(s) may be done in different formats: video recording, online or onsite.
The question based interview will evaluate the match between the candidate’s profile and the requirements for the position, including the technical and personal skills. To better support this stage, the candidate may be requested to prepare a short presentation.

D. Nomination
The selected candidate will be nominated and formally offered the position, including the disclosure of the contractual conditions.
