Purpose:
The Science Technician plays a vital role in supporting the practical and technical aspects of the science curriculum at Doha British School. Their responsibilities encompass preparing, providing, maintaining, organising, and managing the resources essential for conducting healthy, safe, and secure practical activities. This role is crucial in enabling staff to deliver engaging lessons and allowing students to participate in stimulating hands-on experiments, fostering a love for scientific inquiry and supporting the school's mission of helping every pupil thrive academically and personally..
Duties and Responsibilities :
Preparation and Management
o Prepare solutions, assemble apparatus, and deliver equipment to classrooms
o Collect, check, and return equipment to storage
o Maintain inventory of chemicals and equipment
o Assist with ordering materials and checking deliveries
o Construct and modify apparatus as needed
Safety and Compliance
o Ensure student safety at all times
o Assess risks for activities - have an awareness of CLEAPSS
o Properly dispose of waste materials
o Regularly check and maintain science equipment
Equipment Maintenance
o Care for and clean equipment and apparatus
o Arrange for, support and carry out maintenance and repairs with the support of the Science Subject Lead
o Ensure and support safe areas for experimentation across the science department.
Educational Support
o Trial practical activities to ensure effectiveness
o Assist teachers
o Set up equipment for lessons as required
Administrative Tasks
o Conduct regular stocktaking of chemicals and equipment
o Perform photocopying as needed
This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills, a commitment to safety (CLEAPSS), and the ability to support the scientific process in a dynamic, forward thinking department.

Qualifications :
o A good general education with a qualification to A level or equivalent in a science subject is required
o Certificates in relevant areas such as Health & Safety, First Aid etc. would be an advantage but can be supported when in post.
Experience :
o At least three years’ relevant experience (e.g. working in a science laboratory or educational setting) is required
o Experience of living and working in the Middle East (and in Qatar in particular) would be an advantage
