The Government Technology Office - Software Engineering Practice is responsible for establishing standards, driving engineering excellence, and spearheading continuous innovation in the software engineering practice in Gov Tech and WOG.

As stewards of technology leadership, we guide the adoption of new, proven, and innovative methodologies and technologies to enhance productivity and foster continuous improvement.

What you will be working on:

As a Principal or Lead Software Engineer, you will:

• Drive Strategic Practices and Processes: Lead and shape strategic initiatives across Software Engineering, Dev Ops, and Quality Engineering practices. Address complex, high-impact challenges at a national scale, driving innovation that improves efficiency and effectiveness.
• Champion Engineering Excellence: Lead the creation, adoption, and continuous improvement of engineering standards and best practices. Your strategic influence will elevate engineering quality and drive a cultural shift towards excellence across Gov Tech and WOG.
• Drive Innovation and Future-Readiness: Drive the exploration and adoption of technologies (e.g. AI), to enhance our development processes. Challenge and rethink current methodologies, introducing strategies that accelerate development and improve quality and outcome.
• Influence and Integrate Best Practices Across Government: Serve as a key advocate for engineering excellence, guiding the adoption of best practices across Gov Tech, government agencies, and partners. Your role will be crucial in embedding these practices into the organisational culture.
• Mentor and Develop Future Technical Leaders: Mentor and cultivate future technical leaders, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence. Play a pivotal role in expanding Gov Tech’s engineering talent and capabilities.
• Develop Products and Supportive Systems: Lead the creation of complete products that meet user needs and business goals, while also developing the environments, tools, and processes that ensure efficient, high-quality delivery across Gov Tech.
