Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) is looking for a Solutions Development Manager – Energy Solutions

The Solutions Development Manager – Energy Solutions will be responsible for driving innovative solutions to advance the maritime industry’s transition towards sustainable energy. Aligning with emerging maritime regulations and industry trends, this role will mainly focus on the technology commercialization with regulatory compliance required to decarbonize marine and offshore sectors. The Solutions Development Manager will apply a structured approach to building business cases, driving solution development, and ensuring the successful commercialization of sustainable energy solutions for the maritime sector from WSS.

What you will work on:

Opportunity Identification and Development: Utilizing a structured approach to identify and assess emerging trends, technologies, and market needs in the maritime energy transition space.

Structured Solution Development: Driving the technical and commercial validation of new solutions through pilot projects, ensuring they meet performance, cost, and regulatory requirements. Ensuring a structured process for the scaling and commercialization of solutions, including market entry strategies and go-to-market plans.

Business Case Development: Leading the development of business cases for energy transition solutions, including market analysis, financial modelling, risk assessments, and potential return on investment (ROI).

Partnerships and Collaboration: Establishing and fostering strategic partnerships with external and internal stakeholders to accelerate the development of energy solutions. Whilst also ensuring successful execution of joint projects and long-term value creation.

Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) support: Supporting due diligence, financial valuation, and integration strategies to ensure successful post-acquisition outcomes. Working closely with Product engineering to manage the transition and integration of acquired technologies or businesses into the company’s product portfolio and aligning them with WSS objectives.

Road mapping support: Ensuring the road mapping, development and delivery of the energy solutions meet customer and regulatory demands. Advise product management on new product lifecycle from concept through commercialization, focusing on scalability, cost-effectiveness, and competitive differentiation.

Regulatory and Market Engagement: Staying informed about global maritime regulations, sustainability initiatives, and market dynamics that impact new solutions for ships. Acting as an internal thought leader for WSS, providing insights and guidance on the maritime energy transition landscape.

Who you will work with:

The Solution Development Manager – Energy Solutions will report to Business Director – Energy Solutions. Gaining support from a wide range of external functional teams such as technology providers, Original Equipment Manufacturers, customers, non-profits organisations, research institutions. Engaging with industry bodies, government entities, and regulatory agencies to ensure the company’s solutions are aligned with regulatory frameworks. Collaborating with internal stakeholders (finance, operations, legal, and product teams) to validate business cases and ensure they are actionable, robust, and aligned with WSS goals. Whilst also working closely with the corporate M&A team to build and mature a pipeline of acquisition targets that offer critical technologies or expertise in maritime energy transition.

What you need to succeed in the role:

Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Business, Marine Technology or related fields.

7+ years of experience in the maritime industry, with a focus on development around decarbonization, marine engineering, or energy transition.

Strong knowledge of current maritime regulations (IMO, EU, etc.) and future industry decarbonization goals.

Experience with marine transitional and new fuels including familiarity with hybrid propulsion systems and advanced energy storage solutions (preferred).

Experience working with regulatory bodies and marine classification societies.
