Unix Engineer

The Systems Engineer, Unix/Linux is responsible for managing and supporting Unix/Linux infrastructure in a 24x7 enterprise environment. This includes operational support, troubleshooting, deployment of updates, and maintaining service continuity to meet business requirements and service levels.

Key Responsibilities:
- Unix/Linux Infrastructure Support : Manage and support Unix-based IT infrastructure, ensuring stable operations across Unix, Linux, Solaris, Redhat, AIX, and SUSE environments.
- Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis : Provide expertise in diagnosing and resolving server and application issues, delivering root cause analysis as required.
- Package Deployment : Deploy Unix/Linux packages and bug fixes across Test, Pre-Production, and Production environments.
- Operational Administration : Oversee day-to-day operations for Unix/Linux environments, adhering to business needs and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Change Management : Follow established change management protocols for infrastructure changes, including status reporting to relevant stakeholders.
- First and Second-Level Support : Provide 1st and 2nd level operational support, including initial troubleshooting of third-party applications and collaboration with vendors for resolution.
- Audit & Compliance : Participate in audit activities, respond to audit findings, and ensure compliance with relevant requirements.
- Incident Response : Quickly respond to incidents, security alerts, and investigations, implementing temporary or permanent resolutions and providing timely updates to stakeholders.
- Service Continuity : Implement and maintain continuity measures, such as backup/restore procedures and disaster recovery plans, to support ongoing business operations.
- Documentation : Ensure all relevant documentation is updated and maintained.
- 24x7 Support & After-Hours Work : Conduct necessary after-hours maintenance, such as patching, in alignment with the 24x7 operational requirements.
- Additional Support Activities : Perform other Unix/Linux administrative tasks as needed and travel to other Singapore offices occasionally as required.
- Education : Minimum of a Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Experience :
- At least 3 years of relevant experience managing Unix/Linux environments (Solaris, Redhat, AIX, SUSE) in an enterprise-level setting.
- Strong experience in Red Hat Clustering and Oracle Solaris Clustering.

Technical Skills :
- Proficiency in scripting languages and tools, such as Perl, Ruby, and AWK.
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Solar Winds.
- Familiarity with Microsoft technologies (Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy) is an asset.
- Work Environment : Typically 9 am to 6 pm, with flexibility required for after-hours work due to the 24x7 nature of the role (e.g., patching activities).
