Cape Town

FULL TIME

October 9, 2024

  • High school or equivalent diploma
  • Work 40 hours/week, and overtime as required
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Data Center Logistics Specialist to join our Infrastructure Operations team as part of our Work Based Learning Program (WBLP). This is an entry level 12 months work and training program. This role requires travel to sites within the Cape Town area.

AWS offers an exciting opportunity to join a creative, dynamic team of Logistics Specialists, dedicated to providing our Customers with a world class Customer Service. Be a part of operating the world’s largest cloud computing infrastructure. This position will help ensure overall availability and reliability to meet or exceed defined service levels of Data Center Operations. The ideal candidate possesses a strong work ethic, attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and a commitment to Operational Excellence.

The Logistics Specialist reviews data center inventory, in-bound shipments, and ongoing demand to ensure that proper stock levels are maintained in the all locations to support build and repair activities. Working with the Logistics Manager, they create plans to optimize the flow of parts through their lifecycle; tracking inventory location, movement, age, and turns. They work closely with Data Center Operations Technicians and Data Center Engineers to fulfill parts quickly and accurately.
They are responsible for accurate data entry and resolving questions from peer organizations. Regular and ongoing communications with vendors to resolve issues and help them understand our business requirements necessitates a high level communicator.

Responsibilities include manual tasks, such as assembling, addressing, and arranging for the shipment of merchandise and materials. They may also assist in daily scheduling of deliveries and pick-ups to locations. In handling incoming shipments, they have to unpack boxes and verify contents. The Logistics Specialist will be required to keep precise records of all commodities going in and out of company.

Logistics Specialists are expected to understand all aspects of production, adhere to strict safety standards, maintain very high quality, and be willing and able to work on moving equipment (i.e pallet jack or trolleys).

We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Key job responsibilities
All physical requirements are expected with reasonable accommodations:

  • Working in a warehouse environment where noise levels can be loud
  • Standing, sitting, and walking for prolonged periods of time.
  • Loading and unloading shipments and transporting parts between different locations
  • Occasional exposure to extreme cold or hot weather
  • Working with and/or around moving mechanical parts
  • Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance
  • Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of all workspaces
A day in the life
Your day will be spent carrying out Logistical support functions for our Data Centers. This will involve physical control and processing of spare parts transactions, consumables stock replenishment, and cycle counting of stock. The role will require some travel between sites to successfully complete tasks.
