Role Overview

The Director of Product Engineering will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction, architecture, development process and management of our product engineering teams. Reporting directly to the CTO and part of the senior tech leadership team, this role requires an exceptional individual who can inspire and lead our product engineering group in Madrid, shape our technology, architecture and processes, be a collaborative sparring partner to Product and work across a variety of mobile and web technologies and also be the "social bridge" between our Madrid tech hub and our Berlin HQ.
We believe technology managers and leaders at all levels should be professionals at technology, should be able to jump into any project and understand the bits & bolts of the technologies their teams use. Key Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Strategy: Lead the technical direction and strategy for the development and evolution of our products. Provide technical leadership, drive technical excellence and innovation, ensure the adoption of best practices and cutting-edge technologies, services and tools and champion the adoption of AI technologies and practices across the teams
  
• Team Management & Development: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of mobile App and Web, FE and BE engineers. Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. Ensure team alignment with the company's goals and objectives. Oversee the professional development and growth of the engineering team, identifying training needs and opportunities for advancement.
  
• Architecture & Design: Oversee the architecture and design of solutions, ensure velocity, reliability, scalability security and cost efficiency. Work closely with Product and Design leadership to find opportunities to solve customers problems and align technical solutions with customers needs
  
• Quality & Performance: Establish and enforce quality standards and best practices for software development and operation (Mobile App and web). Ensure products meets performance benchmarks and provides a seamless and reliable experience to our customers. Define and track Key Performance Indicators to drive continuous improvement.
  
• Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Design, and Platform engineering to ensure seamless product lifecycle management from concept to deployment and operation. Communicate technical strategies, insights and outcomes to stakeholders at all levels, including non-technical audiences
  

Qualifications

• Proven track record in building scalable, high-performance products, with at least 5 years in leadership roles
  
• Extensive software engineering and technical design and development experience with complex and highly scalable products using multiple mobile and web technologies, public cloud platforms (ideally GCP), and programming languages (Javascript, Go - a plus)
  
• Familiarity with AI and machine learning technologies and their application in product development
  
• Excellent project management and organizational skills
  
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  
• Experience in fintech or related industries is a plus
