Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated thesis student to join our sustainability team. This position is ideal for a master student looking to complete their thesis in a challenging and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing sustainability projects while developing and completing their thesis work. The thesis project offers a hybrid remote setup, with a preferred start in January 2025 and a flexible duration for up to 6 months.

"Assessing the Recyclability of an Electric Wheelchair: Design Strategies for Enhanced Material Recovery”
Permobil has set ambitious targets to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Through different screenings we have mapped the company’s carbon footprint and concluded that the biggest contribution to the emissions comes from Scope 3, and especially the materials that are used in production.
Circularity, and recyclability of materials, play an important role in reducing the environmental impact. By designing products with end-of-life in mind, Permobil can ensure that materials are easily recyclable, minimizing waste and the need for new raw materials. Understanding the practical recyclability of the design is a part of Permobil´s journey to reduce greenhouse gases.
Project
Utilizing existing knowledge about the material used for a typical power wheelchair, and its production methods, to determine the recyclability of our best-selling power wheelchair. The focus will be recyclability in Scandinavia/Europe. Insights from the mapping determine potential obstacles for recyclability and give recommendations on possible solutions.
Goal
Present recyclability of a power wheelchair and provide insights on design challenges and opportunities to enhance the recyclability.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Sustainability, R&D and Service team to gather relevant data, and provide insights.
- Develop a research proposal and detailed plan for your thesis project, in consultation with your academic advisor and the team at Permobil.
- Collect and analyze data related to the thesis project, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Employ appropriate statistical and analytical methods to draw meaningful conclusions from collected data.
- Prepare regular progress reports
- Collaborate with colleagues, academic advisors, and industry experts to ensure the success of your thesis project.
- Manage the timeline and resources of your thesis project, adhering to academic and departmental guidelines.
- Currently enrolled in a master's program in Sustainability/Industrial design/Material science or related field, with a focus on completing a thesis project.
- Has a strong interest in sustainable product design and circular economy
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a sustainability team
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
