We are an international team of entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, and company builders who are developing and commercializing environmentally responsible cellulose-based processes and functional materials for applications in foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, coatings, paints, and inks.
About the opportunity
We are looking for an Analytical Chemist to support the Seprify team in implementing at the commercial-scale processes for developing functional cellulose-based materials and products. You will be responsible for performing analysis and quality control of cellulose-based particles, suspensions, and powders produced in our facility for use in coatings, paints, pharmaceuticals, foods, and other applications.
You will focus on:
(i) performing routine chemical analyses of our products,
(ii) assisting with scalable chemical reactions, as well as
(iii) developing quality control measures.
You will work closely within our Materials and Process Chemistry Team and report to Seprify’s Chief Technology Officer.
In this role, you take responsibility for the following tasks:
● Be able to obtain (ISO or ASTM or specific industry) standards to conduct relevant tests,
● Perform routine chemical and physical analyses, such as: Conductometric titrations, degree of polymerisation, thermogravimetric analysis, particle size measurement using laser diffraction techniques, colour measurements using spectrophotometry, p H and conductivity evaluations,
● Write Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) and establish quality control protocols,
● Assist in conducting small-scale chemical reactions and scaling up reactions as needed,
● Be a trusted safety associate, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and
procedures at Seprify’s operations,
● Grow personnel responsibility with the growth of the team.
What you need to be successful:
● A university degree (BSc, MSc) in Chemistry, Material Science, Forensic Science, or Food Science,
● At least 2 years experience in a relevant QC, chemical lab or pilot plant environment,
● Have extensive safety knowledge handling acids, bases, solvents at high concentrations, and conducting reactions at small and large scales,
● Knowledge and experience in wet chemistry and chemical processing,
● Extensive experience in the ability to operate laboratory equipment,
● Rigorous attention to detail in experimental execution,
● Ability to clearly document and execute complex experiments,
● Ability and experience to work under pressure to meet deadlines,
● A team player, independent, self-motivated, curious, resilient, adaptable, and able to handle the fast pace of a Startup while being focused on assigned tasks,
● A positive attitude and openness to learn and engage in constructive discussions,
● Knowledge of ISO standards is an advantage.
