Job Title: Director Communications / Corporate Affairs EUCAN - Oncology
Location: Switzerland (Baar)

Introduction to role:
Join us at Astra Zeneca as the Director of Oncology Communications / Corporate Affairs, where you will lead the delivery of all communications for the Oncology & Haematology Business Unit (OBU) in our Europe and Canada (EUCAN) region. This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in powering our global enterprise and helping us fulfil our ambitions.

Accountabilities:
Functional Lead OBU EUCAN Corporate Communications (external & internal)
  • Develop communications strategies that drive Astra Zeneca’s oncology reputation externally, support launch excellence for the oncology portfolio in the region, and internal communications to support the evolution of the OBU EUCAN organisation and ensure optimal levels of employee engagement.
  • In driving Astra Zeneca’s oncology reputation, you will lead executive visibility for the SVP - Head of OBU EUCAN, including strategic planning and managing all proactive and ad-hoc media engagements and speaker opportunities (strategically prompted and unprompted). You will also build on existing social media plans to boost the leader’s influence on Linked In. You will do this working in partnership with other EUCAN communications leads supporting the biopharma and rare disease leadership to ensure a cohesive regional approach, as well as the Global Oncology Corporate Communications and Global Media Relations teams.
  • In addition, you will provide ad-hoc support to the wider OBU EUCAN leadership team to support the amplification of flagship projects that can help to drive reputation.
  • In terms of product communications, you will be attuned to the regional portfolio priorities across our oncology portfolio, covering tumours including lung, breast, haematology, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and gynaecological cancers. You will work in close partnership with the Global Oncology Product Communications team to ensure that EUCAN markets (particularly priority OBU markets) are aware of forthcoming newsflow and congress activities, to enable them to maximise these opportunities locally, in line with regional/local priorities. In addition, you will help to shape and support the rollout of global communications campaigns to deliver our oncology tumour-focused goals.
  • You will be also responsible for all aspects of internal communications for the SVP – Head of OBU EUCAN and priority regional projects that require communications expertise. This includes support for business evolution initiatives and the people-focused agenda (working in close partnership with the Head of HR, OBU EUCAN) plus a busy programme of regular (e.g. earnings, Town Halls, country visits, congresses etc.) and ad-hoc (e.g. people announcements, internal speaker opportunities, portfolio news) internal communications. You will also co-lead the development and delivery of the annual Regional Tumour Team Summit and will support delivery of global initiatives as required. You will also co-lead and support delivery of EUCAN region, enterprise-wide leadership communications (e.g. EUCAN Leader Ask Me Anything sessions).

Cross-functional Leadership for assigned Disease Areas
  • As a member of the cross-functional EUCAN Corporate Affairs team focused on oncology, which includes communications, government affairs & policy as well as patient advocacy, you will represent Corporate Affairs for assigned disease areas (n=2-3), becoming the main contact for the business in that area and responsible for the delivery of key objectives across all disciplines. For your assigned disease areas, you will lead and be responsible for all Corporate Affairs related deliveries (cross communication, government affairs, policy and patient advocacy), while continuously aligning and with other functional leads.
  • Working closely with the EUCAN Corporate Affairs team, you will help to create a strong network of communications partners and capabilities across the region. You will help to manage the EUCAN Communicators’ Network, working with other EUCAN communications leads, achieving optimum alignment, consistency and efficiency across the region. You will help to celebrate success, raise capabilities and share best practice between markets, as well as share solutions to challenges facing communicators regarding delivery of business priorities.

Leadership
  • While at this point it is not foreseen that you will have direct reports, you will manage 1-4 assignees (typically talents from the EUCAN affiliates) that will support you in above areas on defined projects.
  • Given your critical role, you will be part of the EUCAN Oncology Leadership-Team.
