Purpose of Activity/Assignment
Exacerbating WASH needs and reduced funding landscape among traditional donors have strained global capacities to meet increasing requests of support from National Coordination Platforms (NCPs). Consequently, the Global WASH Cluster (GWC) seeks technical expertise to support exploring new opportunities, models of partnership, and collaboration specifically with the private sector to maximize its support to NCPs. To this end, this position will be instrumental in producing a mapping of private sector fundraising and partnership opportunities for the GWC.
This assignment will also develop a private sector fundraising strategy and stock proposal for the GWC, including identifying synergies and strengthened collaboration with UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) Division. Through these key deliverables, this support will bring valuable knowledge to the GWC on how to showcase and position the importance of humanitarian WASH coordination and identify opportunities to expand into new and untraditional areas to innovate our approach to resource mobilization and partnership.
Scope of work
1) Produce comprehensive mapping of private sector fundraising opportunities
  • Take stock of GWC priorities, achievements, and fundraising goals
  • Undertake mapping of private sector fundraising opportunities and partnerships to advance GWC priorities outlined in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan, including strengthened synergies with UNICEF PFP.
2) Develop the Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships Strategy for the GWC
  • Conduct a landscape analysis of the external environment to assess strengthen, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
  • Develop a comprehensive private sector strategy targeting the audiences with strongest potential, including individual supporters, key influencers (major donors and foundations) and/or businesses
3) Create stock content to support implementation of the GWC Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships Strategy
  • Create stock content, including presentation and proposal, to support roll out of the GWC Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships Strategy.
  • Provide key inputs to advocacy efforts to promote strategic priorities, including impact of humanitarian WASH coordination; portrays a strong GWC brand through effectively communicating key stories and messages.

Estimated Duration of the Contract

The Consultant will be home-based.
As part of this assignment, some international travels are foreseen. The consultant will arrange her/his travel as and when they take place, and related costs will be reimbursed per UNICEF travel policy.
Travel Clause
  • All UNICEF rules and regulations related to travel of Consultants apply.
  • All travels shall be undertaken only upon the prior written approval by UNICEF.
  • The consultant must be fit to travel, be in a possession of the valid UN BSAFE certificate, obligatory inoculation(s) and have a valid own travel/medical insurance and an immunization/vaccination card.
Estimated Cost of the Consultancy & Payment Schedule
Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of an invoice and satisfactory completion of the above-mentioned deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
Please submit a professional fee (in USD) based on 65 working days to undertake this assignment, without travel fees as this will be reimbursed as and when they take place.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, Management or another relevant technical field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in private sector fundraising and partnerships is required, with progressively increasing responsibilities, including direct responsibility for setting and meeting income targets.
  • Relevant international marketing experience will be considered as contributing to this work experience.
  • Experience in, and knowledge of, the humanitarian/emergency contexts is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the WASH sector, humanitarian and development is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, presentation and communication skills.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-Co V-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
