This is a new and exciting position in the Bioethics and Public Engagement team of Chiangrai Clinical Research Unit, part of the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Network. Our work focuses on engaging communities and healthcare workers around current and future research projects as well as health topics relevant to them such as scrub typhus. We are looking for an enthusiastic social scientist or nurse with experience working in the community setting to be the main coordinator of the Chiang Rai Community Advisory Board, a forum where representatives of hill tribe communities and researchers share knowledge and advice to make sure research is carried out ethically and in line with the needs of communities. The work will include other duties in research or community engagement activities, focusing on public health and bioethics. The position is available full-time. Responsibilities of the Project Coordinator • Facilitate the CR-CAB meeting, help coordinate the activities of the Chiang Rai Community Advisory board (CR-CAB) under the supervision of the project management. • Collect and enter data from the meetings, and other administrative duties. • Conduct presentations, interviews, and focus group discussions in Thai and northern Thai and translating them accurately to English (or supervise the translation). • Assist in the analyses of the data collected from the CR-CAB • Translate (or supervise translation of) relevant documents related to social science research from English to Thai and from Thai to English. • Participate in feedback and discussion sessions • Liaise with ethics committees (ECs) and prepare relevant documentation for EC submission packages • Support qualitative studies led by other researchers within the MORU network • Other duties as assigned Essential requirements • A degree in social science, public health, nursing (community nurse experiences will be considerate) or equivalent • Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Thai • Enthusiastic and organized • Able to work independently • High attention to detail • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Desirable Criteria • Experience in conducting presentations, interviews, and focus group discussions • Experience in conducting qualitative studies • Experience in organizing meetings and events • A track record in publications in academic journals in English • A master’s degree in a relevant field • Local background from Chiang Rai, especially hill tribe ethnic background • Good written Thai and spoken northern Thai Interested candidates please send a cover letter detailing how you will suit the position and your CV to Nipaphan Kanthawang (nipaphan@tropmedres.ac) or contact for further details.
