Job summary
We’re looking for a confident, creative self-starter to work in our digital communications team. The Home Office is one of UK Government’s busiest departments, dealing with some of the most critical and sensitive policy areas. The team designs and delivers integrated digital communications to support high-profile Home Office announcements, campaigns and policies.
We are changing the way we communicate with our audiences and the successful candidate will have a key role to play in our forward-thinking approach.
Important information
Due to the nature of the role it is only available on a full-time basis. Compressed hours and job share are available.
Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estates capacity. Job description
- Be responsible for making sure our social media channels are at the forefront of informing the public of government policy.
- Take a leading role in the planning and delivery of digital content in a policy area.
- Be responsible for briefing and liaising with colleagues throughout the Home Office to achieve this in a timely manner to the highest standards.
- Work closely with creative colleagues to produce first-rate, innovative, high-impact digital products.
- Take a leading role in identifying engaging content opportunities and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Use analytics and insight to inform decision-making and drive constant improvement, within the digital team and beyond.
- Assist the channels team in preparing content for posting, and posting to our digital channels.

Selection process details
- A CV detailing job history/qualifications
- A statement of suitability (personal statement - maximum 500 words)
- Provide evidence of the behaviour Communicating and Influencing (250 words maximum)
The statement of suitability should demonstrate your skills and experience for the role and how you meet the essential criteria as detailed in the job description.
Your CV should consist of your career history, qualification including any key achievements in each role. Your CV will not be scored, but instead will be used to provide further context on your personal statement, and support conversations at interview.
The sift will be held on the behaviour (Communicating and Influencing) and the statement of suitability (personal statement). The CV will be used for information purposes only and will not be scored.
However, if a large number of applications are received, the sift will be conducted on the statement of suitability (personal statement). The statement of suitability will be scored first for all candidates. Those candidates who achieve the minimum pass score for the statement of suitability, will progress to a further sift where the lead behaviour (Communicating and Influencing) will be scored. These candidates will therefore receive a sift score for both elements.
If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview which will be behaviour- based questions on all those listed.
Sift and interview dates
Sift is expected to take place from 13th September 2024.
Interviews are expected to take place from week commencing 23rd September 2024.
We will try to meet the dates set out in the advert, however on occasions these dates may change.
Interviews will be carried out via video. Candidates will be required to have access to:
- A laptop (personal or work) with a working webcam
- Good internet connection
- Microsoft Teams

For meaningful checks to be carried out, individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time to enable appropriate checks to be carried out and produce a result which provides the required level of assurance. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years if the role requires CTC clearance, 5 years for SC clearance and 10 years for DV. A lack of UK residency in itself is not necessarily a bar to a security clearance and applicants should contact the Vacancy Holder/Recruiting Manager listed in the advert for further advice.

Additional Security Checks
As well as successfully obtaining UK Security Vetting clearance, candidates will be subject to a range of additional checks.
The range of checks carried out will depend on whether you are a current Home Office employee, existing civil servant or an external new entrant as well as the role requirements.

A reserve list may be held for a period up to 12 months from which further appointment may be made.

If you are successful in this position and choose to accept the provisional offer for this role, you will be removed from all other Home Office reserve lists at the same grade.
Current Civil Servants (all contract types) will need to ensure that they are still employed as a civil servant at the point of starting in the relevant new post. If their contract ends (e.g. end of FTA contract or resignation) at any point during the recruitment/onboarding process for the advertised role, they will no longer be eligible and may be withdrawn.
