You are required to carry out the duties of a school teacher as set out in the relevant paragraphs of the current Teachers Conditions of Employment document. All subject teachers are expected to contribute to the school in the following ways:


1. The Learning Experience of Pupils by:


(a) teaching Design and Technology across the full range of ability across potentially 3 key stages following departmental schemes of work, the National Curriculum and the relevant subject specifications.


(b) taking responsibility for developing and implementing Schemes of Work in the material area for which you have responsibility, including preparation of students for public exams and qualifications.


(c) contributing to the development of departmental schemes of work and assessment;


(d) setting and marking homework according to school and departmental policies;


(e) integrating the development of key skills (numeracy, literacy and ICT) into their teaching;


(f) monitoring and assessing students according to departmental and whole school policies;


(g) actively promoting the school expectations;


(h) contributing to departmental meetings;


(i) maintaining a safe and attractive learning environment.


(j) taking on roles of responsibility after discussion with subject co-ordinator


2. School-wide Activities by:


(a) promoting the school's ethos and equal opportunities policy;


(b) contributing to the further development of whole school policies and practices;


(c) serving as a tutor with responsibilities for student academic tutoring, behaviour, welfare, guidance and for liaison with parents;


(d) carrying out appropriate school duties, including general lunchtime duties on a voluntary basis;


(e) promoting and safeguarding the welfare of students for whom they have responsibility or with whom they come into contact.

Based in Sutton, Surrey, Overton Grange School is a secondary school for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18. It is a non-denominational establishment. The school currently educated around 1,250 pupils. In June 2011, the school gained academy status. Overton Grange works closely with other schools within the community.

Overton Grange School hopes to give the children a challenging and enriching education. The school aims to provide equal opportunities for every student, no matter what background they come from. Overton Grange values students who take part in extra-curricular activities. Teachers encourage children to be a part of the local community. They also give each child the attention they need in order to increase their self-esteem. The establishment wants pupils to enjoy school life, to feel valued and protected.

“Pupils who receive pupil premium funding, disabled pupils and those with special educational needs are making progress similar to their peers. The curriculum is diverse. A wide range of extracurricular activities allows pupils to explore diversity. This develops their spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. Pupils’ attendance is good. They generally behave well and are supportive towards each other. This enables all pupils, including those accessing the hearing impairment resource, to be included well in academy life. Safeguarding is effective. Leaders and governors undertake appropriate and careful checks on staff, and record information well. Staff undertake regular and effective safeguarding training.”
