Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced Live-in Carer to provide dedicated support for individuals living with dementia and those exhibiting challenging behaviours. The ideal candidate will have specialized skills in managing the complexities of dementia care, including memory loss, confusion, agitation, and aggression, ensuring the client’s well-being, dignity, and quality of life. This role requires a carer who can offer around-the-clock care, providing both personal assistance and emotional support in a respectful and caring manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide personalized care to individuals with dementia, including assistance with daily activities (bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, feeding, etc.).
Support challenging behaviours, using de-escalation techniques, reassurance, and therapeutic strategies to manage agitation, aggression, and other symptoms.
Maintain a safe and calming environment to reduce triggers of anxiety or confusion for the client.
Administer medications and monitor for any side effects or changes in the client’s condition.
Assist in maintaining personal routines, including meal planning and preparation, ensuring nutritional needs are met.
Facilitate mental stimulation activities (e.g., memory games, puzzles, walking, or music therapy) to support cognitive function.
Provide emotional support and companionship, building a trusting relationship with the client and their family.
Liaise with healthcare professionals (doctors, therapists, social workers) to ensure the client receives appropriate care and medical advice.
Document daily activities, care provided, and changes in the client's behaviour or condition for family and medical teams.
Ensure the client’s dignity, respect, and privacy are maintained at all times.
Assist with household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and shopping, ensuring the environment remains tidy and comfortable.
Qualifications and Skills:
Previous experience as a live-in carer with a specialisation in dementia and managing challenging behaviours.
Formal care training/certification in dementia care or a related field (NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent preferred).
Knowledge of dementia progression and techniques to manage associated symptoms.
Ability to stay calm, empathetic, and flexible in challenging or stressful situations.
Strong communication skills to effectively engage with the client and work collaboratively with their family and healthcare professionals.
First Aid certification and up-to-date CPR training.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Driver’s license essential.
