Key corporate account abilities:
To assist with the delivery of Grounds Maintenance operations at various locations within the town of Goole.
The objective of the Grounds Maintenance team is to maintain a pleasant, welcoming and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors. The post holder will undertake a range of Grounds Maintenance duties.
Working environment:
Work will involve working inside and outside for up to 8 hours per day. Work will take place in all weather and will only be suspended if conditions are unsafe or if it is detrimental to ground and/or plants to continue.
Post holders may be exposed to dog excreta and used hypodermic needles. Personal protective equipment will be provided and must be used when appropriate.
Grounds Maintenance duties and responsibilities:
- To ensure health and safety standards, processes, housekeeping and security are adhered to through regular checking, including; vehicle checks, equipment/machinery checks and site inspections.
- Carry out grass cutting and strimming as and where instructed according to the grass schedules and the standards required, including litter picking and clearing of paths.
- Carry out hedge cutting at various locations across Goole to the specified standards as instructed by the Supervisor.
- Carry out seasonal maintenance of flower and shrub beds, plant the towns bedding displays and erect the towns hanging baskets.
- Carry out digging, hoeing, weeding and edging at various locations across the town as instructed.
- Carry out litter picking, emptying of litter and dog waste bins and inspection of play areas.
- Carry out watering of flower planters, baskets and formal displays as necessary.
- Carry out the marking of football pitches and cleaning of changing rooms, toilets and showers.
- Clear the Council’s allotment sites of rubbish, strim, erect fencing.
- Carry out tidying and clearance of Council owned areas as directed.
- Carry out general maintenance duties such as laying concrete bases, fixing of guttering etc.
- Complete documents relating to the roles of the post e.g. vehicle/equipment defect reporting, overtime claims etc.
- Use approved equipment and follow the manufacturer’s recommended guidelines and application rates, undertaking the application of herbicides, ensuring that all defined areas are maintained to the required standards.
- Undertake cemetery duties that include manual grave digging, grave preparation, back filling grave and topping up sunken graves.
- Undertake any appropriate vocational training.
In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to the above. Such duties, however, should not normally exceed those expected of an employee at that grade.
Health and Safety:
The Council has a Health and Safety Policy which outlines its responsibilities as an employer and the responsibilities of its employees in respect of health and safety. All employees need to be aware of this policy and comply with its content.
Risk Management:
All employees need to have an awareness of risk management and are responsible for ensuring that they manage risk effectively in their job and report hazards and risk to their Head of Service or Senior Manager.

Pay: £24,294.00 per year
