The Role:
We are seeking a Modem System Hardware Engineer for a contract position in Portsmouth.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing specialised modem hardware for secure and resilient communication links. You will work on various aspects of satellite communications engineering, addressing practical challenges in real-world conditions
Key Responsibilities:

• User needs capture, requirements analysis, and design responses at both the sub-system (chassis) and module (circuit board layout) levels.
• Provide support during the procurement, manufacturing, and integration phases, collaborating with in-house departments and third-party suppliers.
• Conduct acceptance testing and fault diagnosis at both the module and integrated unit levels.
• Perform environmental qualification testing.

The output of your work will include a comprehensive manufacturing pack to be handed over to a third-party fabrication plant for board manufacture and final assembly.
Qualifications:
You should possess a broad range of experience in mixed-signal (RF/analogue and digital) electronics design, including:

• Proven experience in designing to meet military-level design and test standards (Mil-Std 810) at both the circuit board and unit levels.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for achieving CE/UKCA marks on end products, including compliance with Ro HS, REACH, and EN62368, along with the ability to produce necessary documentation.
• Experience in testing and diagnosing circuit boards in final installations.
• Ability to generate test documentation for both Design Proving and Production Level testing of individual circuit boards and integrated units.

Desirable Skills:
It would be advantageous for you to have:

• Familiarity with aircraft-level design and test standards (DO-254, DO-178, DO-160).
• Experience in generating schematic designs and circuit board layouts for both digital and RF circuit boards using Mentor Graphics.
• Knowledge of Model-Based System Design techniques.
• A background in or interest in satellite communication systems, industry, or modem technology.
