Job overview

The School is academically non-selective and provides an excellent range of facilities and extra-curricular opportunities, recently achieving "Excellent" in the FCI/EQI (February 2023). The Head is a member of both HMC and the Society of Heads.
As a non-selective school, we offer a broad education that supports all abilities. Our small class sizes mean that our teachers can dedicate more time to deliver a rich curriculum, allowing all pupils to make progress. Our pupils are one of Ackworth's USP's. Visitors to the school never fail to acknowledge how amazing they are and how positive the encounter is. This is something that makes a career at Ackworth such a rewarding one.
The Autism Resource is a purpose developed specialist provision, within the mainstream school where our broadly skilled team are able to deliver a high level of care and support to the students who access it. Pupils are generally between the ages of 4-19 years.
An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified, enthusiastic and empathetic individual to join a small team supporting pupils with a diagnosis of ASC and associated needs. Applicants must have previous experience facilitating learning for pupils with special education needs who require one to one support. The Resource is very much part of our Quaker ethos.
You will help to deliver an individualised curriculum as well as a providing a nurturing and therapeutic environment to meet a range of needs including social, emotional, communication and learning difficulties.
In return we offer:
  • a competitive salary (based on 34 teaching weeks) and generous fee remission of up to 50% for the children of our staff.
  • all food and refreshments during the working day.
  • free on-site parking.
  • flexible pension and health benefits.
  • a supportive and friendly environment based on the Quaker ethos of the school.
  • a committed parent community which plays an active part in the school.
  • a beautiful working location in an ideal location within easy travelling distance of the main centres of Sheffield, Leeds, Doncaster and York.

The working hours are 37.5 per week Monday to Friday, term time only. The salary for the role is £17,574.48 and is required from January 2025.

Please visit the school's website for a full job description.
We will only accept applications that are submitted on an application form. We cannot accept CV’s. Forms are downloadable from the school’s website or available to collect from main reception.
Closing Date: Friday 15th November 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
Interviews will be held week commencing 18th November 2024.
WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CLOSE THE ADVERT EARLY AND BRING THE INTERVIEW DATE FORWARD/PUSH BACK.
Applicants should read carefully the Recruitment, Selection and Disclosure Policy and our Recruitment Process. Our recruitment privacy notice is also available on our website within “Working For Us”.
Ackworth School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all applicants will undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS and Barred list check with Disclosure and Barring Service. Applicants should also be in sympathy with the School’s Quaker ethos.

For over 240 years we have maintained a passion for exceptional learning and teaching that is non-selective and without judgment of the individual.

Quaker values underpin all that happens on a daily basis in our school community, with an emphasis on acceptance and quiet reflection. ‘Non sibi sed omnibus’, meaning ‘not for oneself but for all’, lies at the heart of school life alongside the Quaker testimonies of simplicity, truth, equality, peace and sustainability. An inherent respect for others and honesty at all times creates a calm, friendly school atmosphere which is supportive and reassuring for young people. Students are encouraged to think creatively, act ethically and with responsibility.
What makes us different?
Set in the beautiful heart of Yorkshire, within easy reach of major UK cities and transport routes, Ackworth School is a place for:
Growth
Ackworth is an all-through school for children, aged two-and-a-half to nineteen years. This stability throughout their educational journey gives pupils outstanding continuity and the opportunity to forge lifelong friendships, creating an environment for increased academic focus and confidence.
Achievement
With an emphasis on individual goal setting and encouragement, the learning journey at Ackworth School enables students to realise outstanding results, often beyond expectation, whilst remaining attentive to the needs of others. When they leave, they are equipped to lead a fulfilled and responsible adult life.
Support
We devote equal time to supporting pupils’ growth and emotional development as to their academic development. We believe that happiness and fulfilment are an integral part of a child’s educational progression.
Peace
Peace is one of the Quaker testimonies, part of everything we do. Whilst most in our community, whether staff or pupils, are from a non-Quaker background, these relevant principles set the foundations for a life based on the belief that every member of the community has equal value.
