Job overview
We would like to recruit a Teacher of English to join our successful and well-established department in January 2025.
The English department has a record of excellent results at GCSE and A-Level and a commitment to outstanding teaching and learning. The department balances collaboration with creativity: within our well-designed schemes of work there is plenty of scope for each teacher to explore their individual strengths, areas of expertise and teaching styles. We have a strong focus on developing literacy and a love of reading, and work closely with the school library to ensure all students become habitual readers. We run an annual whole-school 'Reading Week', as well as a Year 7 Poetry Day, and annual events for World Poetry Day and World Book Day.
We also offer many extra-curricular opportunities, taking students on theatre trips and hosting talks from writers. We also run Poetry Club, various Book Clubs and a weekly A-Level Enrichment Club.
Applications are welcome from experienced teachers or strong ECTs. We offer an excellent ECT induction programme and invest energetically in the growth of all our staff.

Values and vision
St Marylebone CE School supports students to perform to the highest level in terms of commitment, effort and behaviour. It has embraced the religious and spiritual values of being a church school, as well as establishing a welcoming multi-faith community.
Students are encouraged to think critically, approaching issues with confidence both as individuals and cooperative members of a team. Teachers use the skills instilled in students to create a cohesive community setting, in which communication and respect are key.
The school has been a specialist arts college since 1998. It has since become a specialist school in mathematics and computing, and in special educational needs. This level of expertise has ensured St Marylebone is a model academic setting.
Ofsted report
“This school is an exceptional place, where students flourish both academically and personally within a strong spiritual ethos. The school’s academic results have been sustained at a very high level since it became an academy; they are on track to be even better in 2014.”
