Job overview
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Secondary teacher of English, or Primary teacher with a passion for English, to join our dynamic and highly successful school.
You will be joining our friendly and forward-thinking school at a very exciting time; a school that genuinely values the well-being of all and one that is committed to supporting your ongoing professional development.
Kirkburton Middle School is a thriving, over-subscribed and truly unique school which caters for pupils between the ages of 10 and 13. We work in strong partnership with Scissett Middle School so staff and pupils benefit from the resources of a large school and the personal touch of a small school. Teachers in both of our schools can really teach as pupils have outstanding behaviours, matched with a zest for learning. We encourage our staff to take risks and enjoy their teaching as we believe this leads to strong relationships and exceptional progress.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to develop a strong understanding of the journey from KS2 to KS3 and beyond, working alongside experienced primary, middle and secondary teachers. We also work very closely with feeder first schools and our local high school.
You will:
  • Be a highly effective classroom teacher
  • Be organised and committed
  • Have a strong moral purpose which puts pupils at the centre of everything
  • Believe in high achievement for all
  • Be committed to the extra-curricular life of the school
In return, we can offer:
  • The opportunity to work in a very special school; one which is forward thinking, dedicated to the improving the lives of all children and continuously seeks to be the best it can possibly be
  • Highly motivated pupils who are eager to learn and engage in lessons
  • A school that doesn’t do fads or gimmicks; one which puts teacher workload and wellbeing at the centre of every decision we make
  • A commitment to your future development through a well-structured CPD programme
  • The chance to work as part of a small multi-academy trust who are relentless in their drive to deliver the best learning experiences to all
  • Annual salary increments plus inflation linked increases.
  • Automatic enrolment into a Teacher Pension or Local Government Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution rates.
  • Enhanced occupational benefits (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave).
  • Automatic enrolment into our Employee Assistance Programme which gives you and your family members free access to Health and Wellbeing services including, GP consultations, Private medial operations, Physiotherapy, Counselling and mindfulness, wellbeing clinics, nurse support services, chronic illness and cancer support, menopause support.
  • Flexible family friendly policies from day one.
  • Funding of a wide range of accredited training courses and apprenticeships.
  • A range of working patterns dependent upon the role.
  • For employees on all year-round contracts, a minimum of 28.5 days plus bank holidays (this increases with length of service) holiday entitlement.
  • Death in service benefit.

Our School
Kirkburton Middle School is a mixed, non-denominational academy middle school for pupils aged 10-13. We are a highly popular, oversubscribed and ambitious school with 510 pupils on roll. We pride ourselves in being a vibrant and inclusive school that is passionate about the continuous development of the `whole child’ within a middle school setting.
The three years between the ages of ten and thirteen are characterised by rapid physical, social and emotional change and are of great significance in the academic and social development of young people. Kirkburton Middle School provides a welcoming and secure environment in which pupils enter as young children and leave as confident young adults, each developing at the rate that is right for them. Academic standards at the end of Year 8 are above average and there is a thriving programme of extra-curricular activities. The ethos of the school is a particular strength: welcoming, harmonious, inclusive and mutually supportive. Relationships between all members of the school community are excellent.
In 2016, the school was proud to became part of the Mast Academy Trust, which also includes Shelley First School, Scissett Middle School and Birdsedge First School.
