Job overview
Teacher of Science
Salary – MPS
Fixed Term (to cover a maternity Leave)
Required: January 2025 – December 2025
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well qualified teacher of Science. We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who is driven to raising achievement and promoting high expectations of our pupils. The successful candidate would be expected to teach a range of classes across KS3 & KS4.
While this role is initially offered as maternity cover, the opportunity for a permanent position may arise depending on the continued growth and future needs of the school, as the school has experienced significant and continuing growth over a number of years.
This post is suitable for ECTs and experienced teachers. The post is initially offered as a full 12-month contract. A physics specialism would be advantageous, however there is sufficient expertise and flexibility in the department to allow all specialisms to apply with equality of opportunity.
The current postholder will still be in post in January so there is an opportunity for a phased introduction into the timetable allowing ample time to plan and prepare and allow for a seamless handover with the current postholder and new Director of Learning for the science department.
Penketh High School is an oversubscribed community facing school that is determined to support the academic and holistic development of pupils in order that they leave the school with a strong skillset and positive life chances. The culture of the school is underpinned by an academically rigorous curriculum, high expectations and standards, as well as a multitude of enrichment opportunities. All these aspects of school life are aligned with the capabilities of our outstanding young people.
The school is focused on providing the very best provision for pupils by supporting the professional development of staff, offering a comprehensive and focused CPD programme and encouraging staff to engage with external, nationally recognised professional qualifications. This provision of professional development includes a robust and comprehensive programme to support teachers new to the profession. Our delivery of the Early Career Framework is overseen and managed by leaders who coordinate the delivery for the schools within the Trust and schools across Warrington. Teachers new to the profession will benefit from excellent support and professional development underpinned by the best evidence-based research, facilitated by knowledgeable and passionate professionals.
At The Challenge Academy Trust, we are building a culture that champions better work and working lives across the Trust; a framework to support and develop our workforce from ‘hire to retire’. We are committed to providing a workload that is fair and reasonable, work environment where employee health and wellbeing are actively supported and promoted and structured personal and professional development.
Our staff offer also includes:
