Job description
Agronomist
About Us:
Morgan Composting Inc. is a family business that was started in 1996 by Brad Morgan and his father Dale. Morgan Composting strives to be a driving force in agriculture that promotes sustainable practices, economical fertility options, and healthy soil products. We strive for excellence in our service to our customers, our community, and the environment.
Position Summary:
The objective of this role is to assist in the research, development and testing of new products. Assist with customer soil samples in all stages (sorting, packaging, interpretation and providing recommendations to customers), and working with sales representatives to fulfill customer needs.
Personality Characteristics Required:
We are looking for a self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual who can manage their time effectively. Must have strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills as the position will be directly managing the research and development of new and current products. The role requires drive and a sense of accountability since the day-to-day working environment will involve very little direct supervision.
Job Responsibilities Include:
· Process soil tests and provide customers with accurate data and recommendations on how to improve their crop.
· Assist in research and development of new liquid products to meet customer demand and market changes.
· Monitor product quality with multiple testing methods.
· Observe responses of different soil types to cultural practices, fertility applications, crop rotations, and biological applications (compost, extracts, and fungi inoculation).
· Create custom compost blends, potting soils, and liquid fertilizer blends for various customers based on soil tests, crop type, and equipment used.
· Conduct training seminars with customers, dealers, and fellow employees on how to properly use Morgan Composting products.
· Provide customer service and assist in sales.
· Maintain knowledge of industry standards, processes, and equipment.
· Manage accounts and build relationships with customers.
Job Requirements:
· Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, Crop and Soil Sciences, Environmental Science, Horticulture, or closely related discipline.
· Must have a basic understanding of chemical compounds and reactions.
· Must have a basic understanding of organic certifications on a state and national level.
· Must be familiar with AAPFCO laws and regulations.
· Must be willing to travel occasionally for conferences and meetings (All travel expenses are covered by Morgan Composting).
· 1-2 years of sales or agronomy experience required.
· Must have basic knowledge of agronomy and farming systems.
· Must be physically active and able to push, pull, and walk long distances daily.
· Must maintain a complete knowledge of all products carried by Morgan Composting.
