Position Description:
ARi A is looking for a highly motivated self-starter and low-ego team player to join our team as the Controller, working at our Central Virginia headquarters. This position offers significant potential for advancement as ARi A continues our historical pattern of significant year-on-year growth. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our team, ensuring the financial health and compliance of the company, and supporting our continued growth and success.
The Controller will report to the Managing Member and will support the day-to-day accounting functions of the company, including:
Accounting and Financial Operations:
  • Process all accounting transactions (invoicing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, expense reports, etc.)
  • Deliver accurate and timely financial functions by conducting billing and accounting functions, including government billing, management of the job-cost accounting and timekeeping systems, and managing federal and state tax deposits and employee benefit plans and deposits
  • Maintain and implement controls and procedures to ensure that company assets are properly recorded and protected
Proposal and Project Support
  • Collaborate with technical leads by developing cost volumes and budget and rate projections for proposals
  • Conduct pricing/cost analyses and assist in refining staffing plans for awarded proposals
  • Oversee financial management of projects, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and budget constraints
  • Collaborate with technical leads and customers to ensure timely and accurate reporting, contract modification, and contract closeout activities
Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A):
  • Lead FP&A activities through the production of management reporting, including budgets and forecasts
  • Provide financial input for operational and strategic management decisions
Compliance and Auditing:
  • Ensure a culture of compliance with cost-accounting standards for government contractors, producing timely and accurate financial data and reporting
  • Serve as the primary interface to outside accountants and government audit agencies
  • Support the negotiation and government review of rates for cost contracts in coordination with management and outside accounting firms
  • Prepare filings in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local rules and regulations, as well as filings and submissions for review in accordance with licensing, permits, representations, and certifications
Payroll and Employee Support:
  • Ensure compliance and timely reporting from staff for time card submissions, leave requests, and telework records
  • Monitor and ensure the accuracy of payroll services
  • Assist in the onboarding of staff
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Demonstrable mastery entering transactions and generating reports using standard accounting software (Quick Books)
  • Mastery of Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets and other office productivity applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and professional manner
  • Proven self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently deliver excellence in a deadline-intensive environment

Desirable Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Prior experience with requirements and standards for Federal and U.S. Department of Defense contracting
  • Experience interacting with government auditors and managing compliance with government regulations
