Applies entry and intermediate-level engineering principles and practices in planning, designing, preparing and testing various engineering projects to develop and maintain the public infrastructure of the City of Dallas.

• Ability to manage entry level engineering projects, review and understand design plans, read and interpret engineering specifications.

• Strong communication skills, ability to effectively communicate with citizens, consultants, contractors, and other departments both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to conduct research, compile relevant data, analyze data and write comprehensive reports.
• Knowledge of project scheduling techniques and budget forecasting for construction projects and systems operation.
• Ability to establish and maintain an effective rapport with all levels of management, city officials, vendors, other government agencies, other employees and the general public.
• Basic knowledge of city regulations, department standards, and state and federal regulations which affect engineering design and operating activities.
• General knowledge and application of computer software packages.

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering from program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (EAC/ABET).

• Some positions require a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• For Dallas Water Utilities, must be able to obtain Engineer-in-Training Certification within six (6) months of employment with DWU.

• Current Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate issued within the United States will qualify.
• An individual who has passed the eight (8) hour Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) will qualify (a copy of official exam results must accompany application).

• Some positions may be subject to field-work and inclement weather conditions.
• Ability to work full time in office unless otherwise directed by direct supervisor.
