What we are looking for:
The purpose of this position is to provide leadership for the seasonal workforce and serve as an advanced initial attack Incident Commander and function at a higher ICS level on more complex incidents. This position serves as a relief duty officer and provides operational oversight during supervisor’s absence. Is responsible for the administration and enforcement of Oregon’s fire prevention statutes and rules. Servers as the primary operator of the assigned engine, is responsible for engine/crew readiness and leading an assigned crew or crews. This position coordinates and/or performs physical labor necessary to suppress and extinguish wildfire. Duties include detection, pre-suppression, prevention, and suppression. Also performs routine building and ground maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) seasons in wildland fire suppression
OR
bachelor's degree in forestry or closely related natural resources field and one (1) season of wildland fire suppression.

Note: Successful applicants must take and pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the arduous level. Must obtain the Class B Warden certification within the trial service period.

Note: Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.
Note: Some positions may require a valid class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Required:
  • Required to work with a broad array of people within the agency as well with the public, other agencies and cooperators.
  • Required to posses IQS records and provide copy with Cover Letter and Resume.
  • Required to coordinate and inter-relate well with people to assure smooth and effective working relations.
  • Required to be skilled in oral and written communications.
  • Required to pass the Work Capacity Test (WCT) at the Arduous level prior to appointment.
  • Maintain a fitness level to pass the WCT at the arduous level annually.
  • Required to posses a valid drivers license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • Required to be qualified as Initial Attack Incident Commander (ICT4) and Engine Boss Single Resource (ENGB) prior to appointment.
  • Required to initiate the qualifications/certifications of Division Group Supervisor (DIVS) and/or Extended Attack Incident Commander (ICT3) and Task Force Leader (TFLD).
  • Required to obtain certification as Fire Investigator Type 3.
  • Required to take and pass Basic Forest Law and Uniform Citation training within 3 months of appointment.
  • Required to wear department uniform and personal protective equipment including 8 inch all leather boots, per Oregon Department of Forestry Directives 1-2-1-002 and 0-3-3-380.
