The Opportunity
We are seeking a Payroll Manager to lead all payroll and payroll-related activities globally. The Payroll Manager will report to the Director of People Operations and partner with cross-functional teams across HR, Accounting, Finance, and external vendors.The Skillset

3+ years of experience in a fast-paced, start-up environment

3+ years of payroll experience, prior ownership of payroll or Payroll Manager experience preferred

Advanced knowledge of Rippling is highly desired

Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines while managing multiple projects and maintaining a high level of productivity and quality

Ability to proactively problem solve, identify challenges, and partner with stakeholders to implement solutions
-
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently
-
Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally across multiple departments

Knowledge of multi-state payroll practices
-
General knowledge of global payroll practices
-
Experience with benefit deductions and tax treatments
-
Other technical skills include a strong proficiency across the Google Suite

Lead payroll operations to provide accurate and efficient payroll services to all employees

Oversee full payroll processing cycle including the preparation and processing of semi-monthly, weekly, and monthly payrolls

Audit various payroll reports for accuracy

Maintain and update documentation of payroll process and procedures
-
Responding to and manage payroll-related audits from various federal, state, and local jurisdictions
-
Operate with a mindset of continuous performance improvement to streamline and automate as opportunities arise
-
Additional tasks and payroll-related responsibilities to keep pace with growing global organizational needs

Partner to drive improvements within the HRIS system

Facilitate processing of year-end W2s and other required forms for employees alongside our Payroll Provider and Accounting Department

Partner with our third party payroll vendor to track and drive state and local registration requirements for all withholding, UI-related, and other compliance requirements

Perform monthly reconciliations to payroll reports and benefits invoicing, 401k contributions, and Flex Benefit contributions

Manage the relationship with our external payroll service providers and monitor the effectiveness of the processing services provided by the vendor

Troubleshoot payroll “errors”/questions in Rippling

Perform research and analysis of payroll-related tax issues as they arise solving in a timely manner

Become the subject matter expert for federal, state, and local legal, benefit, and tax requirements by reviewing existing and new legislation and ensuring compliance

Drive changes within the payroll process and supporting systems to appropriately facilitate new types of compensation or changes within the business

Own payroll testing for new pay components and new tax deductions

Become proficient in Rippling Payroll

Depending on the team and role you are interviewing for, you may meet with several teammates as well as cross-functional partners.

The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.
The Perks
Salary & Equity: In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary of $125,000-$145,000 as well as stock optionsFlexible PTO: We seriously mean it, plus 11 company holidays.

Family Leave: All employees receive 12 weeks of 100% paid parental leave. Birthing parents are eligible for an additional 6-8 weeks of physical recovery time.
