Experience & abilities you will need:

• Must have a valid driver's license.
• High school or equivalent
• Must be able to work any shift assigned, days, swings, and graves.
• MSHA Certification Preferred
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds on occasion.
• Must be able to pass a background check, DMV check and drug screen.
• Must have a stable work history.
• Strong work ethic and excellent attendance record required.
• Must live within 60 miles of Hesperus Co. or be willing to relocate.

Working on a federal mine site requires MSHA certification which consists of 32-hour training course. The staffing agencies GCC works with will provide training free of charge but to you that time is unpaid as you need it to work. Through the staffing agency the position pays $22 an hour.

Upon successful completion of the probationary period (approximately 90 days), you would be converted to a GCC employee. Position when GCC pays $34.13 per hour. Rates only increase from there based on position and skill level. We also offer a generous monthly production bonus as well as full benefits and paid time off.

What you will do:
The Utility person will perform a variety of tasks involving both physical labor and equipment operation for the purpose of mining coal. This position performs various general/manual labor duties on frequent basis such as shoveling; applying rock dust; gathering and delivering supplies and materials; greasing conveyor belt rollers; tail pieces and head drives; assisting other miners in performing their duties, etc. (not an all-inclusive job description).

Prior work experience that generally transfers well to coal mining is oil & gas, construction, industrial and agricultural among others. Depending on experience / certifications initial hire would likely be through a staffing agency to ensure a mutual job fit.
