Protective Security Officer Captain

The supervisor will serve as the Captain for the FPS MN contract and report directly to the Contract Manager; the supervisor will be monitoring and directing staff and can perform administrative tasks including timekeeping, and report tracking. Provides close supervision of personnel/ protective security officers assigned to their respective shifts, functions, and facilities. In case of after-hours emergency situations, the supervisor responds and take initial command until higher authority arrives. They are empowered with the authority necessary to handle emergency events, hire, perform disciplinary action, mentor and interact with the client. Other duties may be assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the FPS-Minnesota Contract
- Assist Contract Manager with supervising the security operations
- Responsible for providing direct oversight and supervision of subordinate supervisors and security officers. Assist in the development and implementation of efficient security schedules specifically designed to ensure all sites/posts are covered and operational by a trained security officer
- Enforce company policies and procedures relating to security and ensures that all breaches of security and policy are properly reported
- Ensure all requirements are enforced relative to the contract guard responsibilities, as stipulated in the Statement of Work
- Prepare and conduct performance evaluations of security officers and subordinate supervisors
- Ensure personnel are properly uniformed and present a neat and professional appearance as referenced in the PSO SMART Book
- Ensure PSO's are thoroughly knowledgeable of their duties and demonstrate the ability to act effectively during emergencies and other unusual situations
- Inspect PSO's to ensure they possess all necessary permits and credentials as required by the contract, state and local law
- Ensure overtime is kept to a minimum, foresees staffing needs and reports personnel issues to the Contract Manager
- Assist the Contract Manager in the hiring process, to include the review of resumes and the interview process
- Initiate all clearance packages for assigned personnel
- Administrative duties to include, but not limited to: scheduling, writing memos, issuing commendations and/or disciplinary letters, reconciling daily hours worked, filling out training certificates/exhibits, maintaining inventories and completing monthly reports for the Contract Manager
- Perform other work-related duties as may be assigned by the Contract Manager
- Frequent contact with the public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring the ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to maintain a high degree of alertness, with the ability to react quickly mentally and physically to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations
- Ability to use post security equipment (magnetometers, X-Rays, and CCTV); ability to use handcuffs, baton, a firearm at any time while on duty
- Ability to read and understand post assignments, write reports, and respond to both routine and emergency dispatches
- Ability to subdue violent or potentially disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis, provide First-Aid/CPR while waiting for the arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel
- Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weight, moving heavy objects, climbing stairs, responding to emergencies, and ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally eligible to work in the United States or Lawful Permanent Resident who is currently a member of, or who possesses a verifiable honorable discharge from, any component the United States Armed Forces
- A minimum of two (2) years of security (armed), or one (1) year of law enforcement experience in a full-duty status with a full-service police department in a municipality, state, or federal enforcement department within the US, and have resigned or retired in good standing; or a minimum of two (2) years of honorable service as a member of any US Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard) Component
- A minimum of two (2) years of successful experience of field supervision (civilian community law enforcement, military law enforcement or commercial/industrial security force service)
- Must have a Social Security Card issued by the Social Security Administration, which bears the individuals name and social security number
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays
- Able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language and ability to prepare detailed written reports and fill out forms
- Must be able to pass all training and obtain all required certifications
- Able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screening
- Must be able to pass a background investigation to include but not limited to criminal, credit and driving record checks
- Must be able to pass US Government background investigation for required security clearance if necessary
- Ability to obtain a Top-Secret Security Clearance
- No Disciplinary action in the last 12 months
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel
- Must have a strong working knowledge of security operations and safety practices in a business environment
- Must obtain a MN permit to carry a pistol
- Exceptional firearm proficiency
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with staff, the client and the public. Be able to prepare, understand and follow standard operating procedures; perform duties in a professional manner, write, prepare, and investigate required reports
- Make independent and good judgment decisions within policy and maintain all contract credentials

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is typically in a busy federal office environment and subject to frequent interruptions with long periods of sitting, standing or walking. Extended hours to include nights, weekends and holidays may be required. May be subject to outdoor conditions including extreme temperatures and weather. Subject to high noise levels to include gun fire, hazards including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to high heat, extreme cold or exposure to chemicals.
PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS
Heavy work: Exerting up to 200 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must have visual and audio acuity to heavy equipment, machines such as fire equipment and apparatuses, firearms and clearing barrels. May be required to be fitted for and/or wear a respirator. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, often without breaks, and may be required to climb stairs or ladders and walk-up inclines and on uneven terrain.
Must meet all physical and psychological standards as required by the contract. Must be physically capable of standing a 12-hour post. Travel may be required.
