Senior Advisor, Disability Rights and Inclusion (P4)

As the Senior Advisor, Disability Rights and Inclusion at Save the Children US, you will lead and advance efforts to promote the inherent dignity, individual autonomy and independence of both adults and children with disabilities through Save the Children’s international programs and advocacy. Serving in a cross-cutting leadership role in our International Programs division, the Senior Advisor will use their technical expertise, networks and relationship-building skills to ensure the integration of best practices and evidence around disability inclusion across Save the Children’s thematic areas, e.g., health, livelihoods, climate, education, protection, governance, equality, and social justice. You will spearhead the identification and development of impactful, strategic partnerships at global, national and grassroots levels, fostering collaboration with Organizations of People with Disabilities, and expanding Save the Children’s external engagement and influencing on Disability Rights with stakeholders in our sector. You will also support efforts to secure resources for programming and advocacy that advances the rights, protection and inclusion of children with disabilities in the communities and countries where we work.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
Technical Leadership (40%)
- Serve as SCUS' senior technical expert on Disability Rights and Inclusion, ensuring integration of best-practices and evidence-based approaches.
- Lead integration of Disability Inclusion across programs and advocacy in thematic areas including but not limited to, health, livelihoods, climate, education, protection, governance and equality & social justice.
- Provide technical inputs related to research and data collection with and about children with disabilities, to ensure rigor and ethical standards are upheld in our research.
- Serve as a key member of Save the Children’s global Disability Inclusion Working Group, fostering a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and learning.
- Facilitate learning events related to Disability Rights and Inclusion, working closely with our Employee Affinity Group for staff with disabilities, and fostering dialogue, knowledge generation and exchange across the organization.
- Lead the development of strategic partnerships with global, national and grassroots organizations, with a focus on Organizations of People with Disabilities and networks and associations advocating for disability rights at the global level.
- Represent Save the Children in national and international forums on Disability Rights, and with donors and other stakeholders, in order to raise the influence of Save the Children’s
- Spearhead efforts to mobilize resources for the development of a robust GBV program portfolio, leveraging your experience and networks to secure funding from diverse sources.
- Provide technical leadership and expertise in the development of proposals to US government, foundations, and private donors.
- Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience facilitating change through influencing, inspiring, and mobilizing others
- Strong networks with disability rights leaders, organizations, coalitions and academics
- Significant expertise in disability across one or more thematic areas such as health and nutrition, child protection, education, social protection, early intervention, governance and advocacy, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to advance disability rights through international development programming, with experience in inclusive program design, research and evaluation, technical assistance, capacity building and partnership
- Experience developing successful funding applications from US government, multilaterals, foundations, and/or private donors
- Experience developing and facilitating learning events to a range of audiences
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
- Experience working for an Organization of Persons with Disability
- Experience addressing disability rights in the context of child rights
- In-depth understanding of disability within development, nexus, and humanitarian contexts
- Demonstrated expertise in policy advocacy and dialogue
- Proficiency in ASL, French, Spanish, and/or Arabic
Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:
- Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 – $121,600 base salary
- Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 – $110,200 base salary
- Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 – $98,800 base salary
Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
